I am an Associate Professor of Public Policy and the Vice Dean for Research at the USC Sol Price School of Public Policy. I am also the Director of the Value of Life Sciences Innovation research program at the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Econonimcs. Before joining USC, I earned a BA and MS in applied math from Harvard and a PhD in business economics from the University of Chicago.
My research focuses on provider and pharmaceutical markets. I am interested in how financial incentives affect provider behavior, the role of regulation in pharmaceutical development and market competition, and the relationship between health spending, health outcomes, and labor productivity.
In addition to publishing in leading economics, health policy, and medical journals, I have given congressional testimony and presented my work at the Congressional Budget Office, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation’s advisory committee meetings.
I currently serve as a co-editor of the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management and an associate editor at the American Journal of Health Economics.
