Howard L Cassaday Honored for Faithful Service

December 2012

Howard, affectionately known as Hoppy, was honored at the choir's annual Cantata Luncheon on December 23, 2012.

Here are a few things that we learned about this fascinating pastor and musician.

*Born in 1924 – 88 years old

*Hometown Elmer where he was active in church and SS.

*Father worked for the Elmer Times

*Sixth grade played saxophone & clarinet the in the Community Band

*High School played trombone and baritone horn in the Dance Band

*Later played in the Bridgeton Owenized Band and Bass Drum in the Red White and Blue Band

*Studied Chemical Engineering at Drexel University.

*Worked at Owens Illinois in Bridgeton and later Kimbal Glass in *Vineland as a plant engineer in the scientific division.

*Married Grace in 1948.

*Attended small Methodist church on 4th Street in Vineland which was without a minister.

*Howard felt called to step up to be their pastor.

*Later would go on to study for full time ministry Crozier Seminary and later Eastern Baptist Seminary.

*Would go on to serve 20 years in active ministry and 15 years of part time ministry.

*Served in Vineland, Bridgeton, Newport, Trenton and Tom's River.

Sang in choirs in many of these churches.
