PE and Sport

At Alburgh with Denton Primary School we are committed to PE and sport and ensure that every child takes place in a full curriculum (2 hours a week).  Our curriculum is delivered through many areas of activity including dance, games, gymnastics, athletics, swimming and outdoor and adventurous activities. Click here to see the Key Stage 1 programme of study or the Key Stage 2 programme. We ensure children understand the importance of an active healthy lifestyle and how different activities affect their fitness and development. This is achieved through a number of ways including questioning, pupil observations and assessments as well as cross curricular links with other subjects such as Science and Literacy.

To support our curriculum time table, we offer a wide variety of after school clubs that have a high attendance, such as gymnastics, aerobics, ballroom dancing, football, tag rugby, rounders etc.  All children from key stage 2 have regular swimming lessons at Archbishop Sancroft High school in Harleston and many attend their local swimming club for extra sessions.

In 2012, our whole school project focussed on the Olympics and many of our children took in a range of sporting festivals and local school competitions.  All children were awarded certificates for their attendance and representing their school with such dedicated spirit. We look forward to attending a variety of events this forthcoming year.

Excellent news!  In 2013, we were awarded the county P.E. High Quality Chartermark. This award is designed to ensure a high quality experience and entitlement for all young people in Norfolk.  We submitted an extensive portfolio of evidence to apply for this award and this underwent a rigorous assessment process to ensure this school’s provision met with the highest standards of excellence.  We are extremely proud of our achievements and remain in awe at the standard of work the children produce in lessons.

We have some more fantastic news about sport and PE in our school. Before the summer break we applied for the Sainsbury’s Games mark award. It is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community. Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the Mark. We are pleased to announce that we were awarded a GOLD award after our application was verified, which is the highest standard you can achieve! We are extremely pleased with the fact that we can offer the children so many sporting opportunities in and out of school time.
