Maria Teresa Durães Albuquerque is an Assistant Professor with Habilitation in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Escola Superior de Tecnologia of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (since 1996). She is a senior researcher at CERNAS (IPCB) and, at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT), University of Évora. She has received her Bachelor's degree in Geology in 1985 (University of Lisbon, Sciences Faculty), her Master's degree in Mineralurgy and Mine planning in 1993 University of Lisbon, IST), her Ph.D. in mining engineering in 1999 (University of Lisbon, IST), and in 2019 the Habilitation in Earth and Space Sciences (University of Évora). In 2013 she was awarded the mention of “International Doctorate”, by the University of Oviedo, Spain. Her main research fields are Data Analysis and Multivariate Spatial Statistics applied to Natural Resources and Environmental Modelling. Under these subjects, she has been coordinating several Master and Ph.D. thesis and participating in several collaborative projects with international partners. She is a member of the International Association of Mathematical Geosciences (IAMG), The International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH-Member number 142808), CoDa Association, and the Portuguese Association of Geologists (APG). She served as invited co-editor of special issues for the journals Geosciences and Water. Since 2021 she has been an associated editor of the Arabian Journal of Geosciences (Topic 4) and the Principal Investigator (PI) of the PROMOVE BPI/LaCaixa project "Evaluation of remediation alternatives for water bodies affected by drainage from mine, using geomaterials". She has participated in several international conference technical/scientific committees and engaged in the organization of several national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops. In 2019, at the invitation of the organizing committee of the Eco-Festival Salva a Terra, she contributed to the debate on the topic Lithium Mines! And now? with the lecture Unsustainable Sustainability. She is a scientific reviewer of several international journals and conferences. She is the author and co-author of more than 75 publications, in international journals (51 in Scopus), in book chapters of international editions, and at international and national conferences.
