Jardins de Miramar
Jardins de Miramar
La verema. per Pau Gargallo. 1929. --------------------------------------- Miramar Gardens in Montjuic, designed by Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, 1929. In the square stands the Serenitat, the iconic sculpture by Josep Clara. At the square, forming an equilateral triangle, we also find another work of Clara, La Fertilitat (the fertility), and a sculpture by Pau Gargallo, La Veremadora (the vintage). Forestier was a lover of gardening and was summoned to Barcelona by Francesc Cambo from Paris, where he was responsible for municipal landscaping, to take charge of the gardens at the International Exhibition of 1929. When installed in Montjuic, La Serenitat was placed at one end of the gardens, so-called Belvedere. Later, it was moved a mile beyond, Stadium Avenue, near the palace Albeniz, where it remained for 35 years. Looking at the gardens is a luxury hotel in former studies on Spanish TV. The building opened in 1929 as a restaurant, until in 1959 when TVE settled there, which moved out in 1983. The establishment maintains the facade of three storeys plus attic of the building erected between 1927 and 1928, but the building has grown back and to the sides to house the hotel, which has 80 rooms. -------------------------------------- Jardines de Miramar, en Montjuic, disenados por Jean-Claude Nicolas Forestier, 1929.
