Reflections

Here are my thoughts on the various assignments that I completed in this course.

Productivty Tools- I really enjoyed this assignment. Even though I worked with MS Office before, I didn’t have any idea how powerful the programs really were. I learned that there is a wide variety of pre made templates. Using the templates allowed me quickly create professional quality classroom tools. Initially I had difficultly working with the new MS Office 2007 Suite. The commands were grouped differently from the previous versions. Fortunately after some trial and error I was able to adapt to the new layout. I think that being able to quickly manufacture visually pleasing designs will let students see that traditional classroom tools can be simulating and exciting. In the future I will rely more on the use of searchable templates or templates that I create and save and less on making the projects from scratch.

Cognitive Tools- The Space Exploration idea came from my love of science. I wanted to create something that would informative and exciting to everyone involved. I created my Webquest directly on the site. I choose this route because of their simple layout and step by step approach. My school doesn’t often use Webquests so it was fun and exciting tailoring one that could accomplish exactly what I wanted to achieve. The task portion flustered me. This is mostly because it was tricky making three jobs that all have the same difficulty level. Role playing, team work, and expressing your work through presentations always seem to excite students. This gives them a chance to synthesize previous lessons with research techniques. I look forward to making new Webquests with inventive tasks and an even more creative process.

Open Ended Project- This was another really cool project. I had no idea that Power Point was capable of being used to create games. I previously thought that it was capable of only presentations. I had to overcome the challenge of creating multiple choice questions for lower grade levels. I wanted to make sure that each question had a moderate level of difficultly, while remaining fun. It is my belief that students will respond positively to the chance to play an interactive game. For my future games I would like to add hyperlinks to web and use embedded videos.

Literature Review- This final assignment was my most challenging. I have always been better at creating project than actually writing about them. Doing this paper hepled me to better express my creative process through writing. I am now able to reflect on all the terms, skills, and techniques I acquired along my journey. In the future I will remember to record the original source of notes that I take. That will make it easier to properly cite my documents, and not have to spend extra time retracing my steps.
