Regional District Provides Grant to Alberni Wrestling

The Alberni Valley Wrestling Club was thrilled to receive a grant of $1000 from the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District in support of the 28th Annual Alberni Invitational Wrestling Tournament February 3-5 2011. This event brings close to 800 people to the valley every February for three days and is widely considered one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in Canada. This year’s event was another great success both on and off of the mats as over 600 athletes from elementary ages through middle and high school as well as some adult competitors participated in the Invitational at the Alberni Valley Multiplex.

In the picture Regional District Director Glenn Wong presents Alberni Wrestling President Tom McEvay with a letter and the cheque from the Regional District. McEvay commented, “ We are extremely appreciative that the Regional District has made such a substantial contribution to the Invitational. We believe this is evidence that local government sees the value that this event and our program have to the healthy development of youth in our community and the impact that an event such as this has to the local economy and future opportunities. We would also like to thank the many, many local businesses and organizations who step up each year to support this event with cash or in-kind contributions. We truly do live in a special community and this is commented on by many of the visitors who come to our tournament.”
