In response to the Relief Society’s campaign “I Was a Stranger” and the encouragement from our leaders, specifically a talk by Elder Patrick Kearnon “Refuge From the Storm”.
Albany 2nd Branch has volunteered with USCRI Albany U.S Committee to resettle families arriving in the Albany area.
How Does It Work?
Apartment set-up: USCRI provides qualified refugee and immigrants with an apartment and rent for a limited period of time. The apartments are cleaned & furnished. Food is purchased for two weeks or so.
There are two methods of volunteering for apartment set-ups:
One way is that the church organizes the complete apartment set-up, providing all items, supplies and volunteers. You will be notified by your unit leader or church organizers of pending apartment setups or you can request here to be on that mailing list.
The other way is to "join-in" on USCRI organized set-ups by emailing, mslotnick@uscri-albany.org to request to be put on the USCRI organized set-up volunteer email list.
Donate Items: Here is the current list of items needed. Please inform us by email pmcgre@gmail.com of any items you intend to donate. All Donations are to be brought to the Albany 2nd Branch unless your church unit has designated a different storage location.
