CHANGES TO THE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM FROM 1 APRIL 2019

Help us help you! Please tell us the reason you would like an appointment at Albany Surgery.  Our experienced reception staff will be able to offer you an alternative option if the clinician of your choice is not available.

A mobile hearing loop system is available for our patients who suffer with a hearing impairment.  Please let us know if you require this service.

Please contact the surgery on 029 2048 6561 to book an appointment.  The surgery telephone lines open at 8.00 am Monday to Friday, and the doors open at 8.25 am.  PLEASE CALL BETWEEN 8.00 AND 8.30 AM ONLY IF IT IS A REAL EMERGENCY.

ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS:  phone between 8.30 am and 6.30 pm.  You can book appointments up to one week ahead, subject to availability.

SAME DAY APPOINTMENTS: please call at 8.30 am.

We can assist you with dates, appointment times, the clinician of choice when available, or alternatives when your choice is not available.

We would remind you that appointments are 10 minutes long and we are only able to deal with one problem per appointment.  Please make a separate appointment for each person that needs to see the doctor or nurse (including children).

EMERGENCY / NON-ROUTINE APPOINTMENTS – patients are given the opportunity to use our triage system if they feel they are unable to wait for an appointment the following day.  This happens when all appointments have been allocated for the particular day.

When triaging, the on call doctor will assess a patient’s medical condition over the telephone and offer advice or an appointment, if appropriate, with one of the members of the medical team.

We would remind patients that prescription requests should be made in the usual way – please do not put your name on the Triage List for a medication request as we will not be able to help you.  Prescription requests are not taken over the phone.

Please note that the Triage List closes at 12 noon.  After 12 noon the practitioner on call will assess all further requests but you may not receive a call back that day.  In this case you are advised to call again the following working day, at 8.30 am.

TELEPHONE ADVICE:

  • There are slots available for telephone consultations
  • Call after 2.00 pm for test results.
  • Call after 2.00 pm for prescription queries.

NURSE APPOINTMENTS are bookable 7-14 days in advance.

HOME VISITS:  Please call before 10.30 to request a home visit that day.  Our receptionist may ask you for some information with regard to your condition as this will enable the doctors to plan their visits.

CANCELLING AND REARRANGING APPOINTMENTS:  Please let us know as soon as possible if you are unable to attend an appointment you have made so that it can be offered to another patient.  Patients arriving late for their appointment may be required to re-book the appointment.

84 appointments were lost in February 2019 because patients either did not attend an appointment they had booked previously, or arrived late.

Over the next few months we hope to be able to provide online access to the appointment system.

We continually monitor our appointment system with the aim of improving access to our clinical team for as many patients possible.  We value your feedback – please use the Patient Suggestion Box, which is located in the waiting room.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL CALLS ARE RECORDED FOR TRAINING PURPOSES
