Who We Are - A Statement of Purpose:
The Albany Angels hockey team began in 2014 in an attempt to have a clean slate and build a team from the ground up that adheres to certain principles. We strive to have FUN, do our best and be a team that other teams like to play! We work to always have good sportsmanship and to foster learning and growing in hockey and life.
Winning to us = commitment to excellence + skill development + love of the game! We continue to make cooperative team play in games and practice our top priority.
We have found that our courage to keep our vision has generated a multitude of positive benefits, both off and on the ice. The Angels has grown into a larger club with 3 separate teams. Our goal is to not lose the unity of being one club with a common mission. We do our best to get to know players on all teams in the club (by attending events, inner squad scrimmages, extra practices and other team’s games if possible). We have the advantage of back to back games on many occasions so that we can cheer each other on.
The following is a summary of some of our priorities:
1) We prioritize practices at least as much as games. Angels do not have players who pop in to games without coming to practices. We strive to all learn together as a team so we can play together as a team.
2) Good sportsmanship is a must. The Angels goal is to lead by example in sportsmanship and defusing conflicts both on and off the ice.
3) Everyone on the Angels has equal rights to our ice time and coaching. We all pay the same and we are all equally valuable to the club. Unless there is no other option, we will NEVER borrow players from other organizations. A game can be played with 10-15 players on the ice, we will borrow a player or two from OUR OWN roster (D to Rec and Rec to D) only if we are under 10 players. (or, depending on the game, to have even lines.)
-As an organization, the Angels never plan to have more than 9 forwards in any game. If we have more than 13 players in any game, teams should roll 5 or 6 defenseman rather than overloading the forward lines.
4) While rostering of teams is done by the Leadership Board, all decisions about lines and defensive pairings are completely up to the captains.
6) NEVER NO SHOW A GAME or try to your own sub. If you are not able to make it to a game this will be taken care of by the scheduler (Shannon).
8) In drills at practice, be open minded. We push ourselves to utilize practice time to the best of our ability. Practices are the gems of all of our fun and development. They are the opportunity to invigorate the team, develop individual AND team skills, and get in a great workout!
10) If any problem or concern arises within our team, please first try to speak to those involved and keep your captains informed. If this is not possible you may bring Margot/Shannon into the situation. Our goal is to solve things before anyone builds frustrations or stress. This team should be our "happy place"! We ALL get frustrated but we need to help each other out so that we can maintain our principles as a team.
11) Good locker room etiquette is expected. Maintain modesty and clean up after ourselves.
