A wander through Cumbria's ancient landscape

country lane

IF you love Cumbria, love folklore, love history - and love real books you are in the right place. My partner, Lesley Park, and I research Cumbrian history and its 'unwritten' folklore and legend. The results of our researches are shared on this site and are included in our books - all handstitched. Topics range from boggles (ghosts) to fairies, and lonnings (green lanes) to the history of Whitehaven's street-lamps! These are books that contain much original information but are also beautiful to put on a bookshelf or present as a gift to a friend. You can buy books from these Cumbrian outlets: The Rum Story, Whitehaven; Lowes Court Gallery, Egremont or The New Bookshop, Cockermouth (in fact, we'd prefer you to so  you can support our local shops!) or via our online shop.

There's now a deluxe edition of our lonnings book available (UK only) for £15 (plus postage). The hardback book is handbound with a cloth cover and includes a general introduction to lonnings (Cumbrian dialect for country lanes) plus details of Billy Watson Lonning, Lovers Lonning (St Bees), Johnnie Bulldog Lonning, Mackenzie's Lonning, Ladies Lonning, Low Lonning, Great Little & Squeezed Gut Lonning, Low Lonning, Castle Lonning, Wine Lonning, Thin & Fat Lonning, Seacross and Huntingstile. Most are in the west or north of Cumbria. Huntingstile is in Grasmere and included is the Christmas ballad Down't Lonnin.  Grid references are included for each of the lonnings. The 80-page book is printed on high quality paper and is in full colour. Remember: You can also buy a paperback version of this book (in black and white) on Amazon - and you can also get a Kindle version which for Amazon Prime customers can be 'borrowed' from the library. And our pocket-sized edition is available in local bookshops or online. But for those who love real books, beautifully made - this is the one for you!
