Book Clubs

Each month, the children's department hosts book club discussion groups for children in 1st-8th grade. Book club participants meet once a month to discuss a new book in a small group setting facilitated by a librarian. Participants of all ages are expected to have finished the assigned titles and be ready to participate in the discussions. Book Club books are available for checkout at the Main branch Children's Department (with library card) about one month prior to the meeting date.

Beginning Book Club: Students in 1st-3rd grade
Intermediate Book Club: Students in 3rd-5th grade
Advanced Book Club: Students in 5th-8th Grade

If you have any questions please call the Children's Department at 510.747.7705

Notes about Upcoming Children's Book Clubs:

Book Club Members and Parents,

The process for book club sign-ups will be CHANGING. We will now be choosing book club participants by LOTTERY.

Students who are in 3rd grade have the option of entering the lottery for either Beginning or Intermediate Book Club.

Students who are in 5th grade have the option of entering the lottery for either Intermediate or Advanced Book Club.

We realize that schedules do change, so it is important to let the appropriate staff member know whether or not your student, if selected, will be able to participate in the book club. Please call the Children's Department at 510.747.7705

All other entrants will be place on a waiting list and if a post opens, he or she will be contacted.
