Workshop for (Future) Scientific Software Developers

The Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) is organizing a Workshop on Computer Programming and Advanced Tools for Scientific Research Work to be held at ICTP, Trieste, Italy from 11 to 22 March 2013 followed by a Quantum ESPRESSO Developer Training and a LAMMPS Developer Training.

The purpose of this workshop is to introduce scientists to modern software development tools and best practices. Over the course of a two week intense training program, participants will be trained with lectures and extensive hands-on session from scientists with extensive experience in developing for widely used scientific software packages. There is no registration fee and qualified applicants from developing countries can apply for partial or full financial support for travel and accommodation. Low cost accommodation in the ICTP guest house is for other participants subject to availability.

In the days following the general training, there will be an opportunity to attend specific training sessions in Open Source projects like Quantum Espresso and LAMMPS organized by experienced developers of these packages. It will also be possible to attend only the satellite meetings on Q-E or LAMMPS development. There is no registration fee for these events as well. Participation is subject to qualifications and available capacity of lecture halls and computer rooms.
