Marissa's Homemade Laundry Detergent

Ingredients:

1 (4 lb. 12 oz.) box of Borax 20 Mule Team
1 (3 lb. 7 oz.) box of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
1 (4 lb.) box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda
1 (3 lb.) OxiClean
1 box Clorox 2
1 (28 oz.) Purex Crystals
2 (14.1 oz.) Zote Bars

Directions:

Grate Zote soap bars with a cheese grater.  *Tip - Open soap bars and leave in a dry place for a week before grating.  This allows the soap to dry out a bit, which makes it easier to grate.  Use the smaller side of the cheese grater.  You want the grated pieces to be very small so they will dissolve easier in the washer.

Using a large clean bucket, begin by layering the ingredients, one cup of each at a time, mix well.  Keep adding layers of each ingredient and mixing.  It's very hard to incorporate all the ingredients together after dumping them all into the bucket at one time.  This method will save you in the end.  *Tip - Wear protective eye wear and a mask!  This is powdery mix that floats around - protect your eyes and lungs.

After mixing all ingredients well, transfer your detergent into an air-tight container.

Use 2 - 4 tbsp. per load.  Yield: 304 (2 tbsp) loads. Cost per load: $.08.

This recipe is said to be safe for HE & Front loader washers.  I've used it with my HE front loading washer with no trouble at all.
