American Airlines Duct Tape
American Airlines Duct Tape
April 9th, 2008 we got up and listened to the news as we prepared to head for the airport. We heard American Airlines was canceling more flights to check for some safety defects. That always tends to make you nervous anyway, but then we get on our American Airlines flight 4359 at 10:20 AM from Toledo, Ohio to Chicago O’Hare and as we sit down in our seats, we see the covers above us being held in place with duct tape. Naturally, Pam was very nervous then, but as a maintenance manager, I pointed out to her that the duct tape they used was not ordinary duct tape; this was industrial strength and everything would be all right. Sure enough, American Airlines got us through safely just as they always do. Oh well, that is what husbands are for.
China Airlines Flight 120
China Airlines Flight 120
On August 20, 2007, China Airlines Flight 120 landed at Naha Airport in Okinawa. Moments after coming to a stop on the tarmac, ground crews noticed flames coming from an engine. The captain ordered an emergency evacuation, and seconds after the very last crew members and passengers made it out, the plane burst into flames. By some miracle, nobody was injured. I watched the smoke billowing up from the airport from my office that day. I was lucky enough to get this shot a few days later when my family and I departed for San Francisco.
