The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (IATA: DFW, ICAO: KDFW, FAA LID: DFW) is located between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth, and is the busiest airport in the U.S. With 685,491 aircraft movements in 2007, it is the third busiest airport in the world in terms of aircraft movements. In terms of passenger traffic, it is the seventh busiest airport in the world transporting 59,784,876 passengers in 2007. 57,093,187 passengers passed through DFW Airport in 2008. In terms of land area, at 18,076 acres (7,315 ha), it is the largest airport in Texas, the second largest in the United States, behind Denver International Airport, and third largest in the world. It is the ninth busiest international gateway in the United States, and second in Texas, behind Houston Intercontinental Airport. It is tied with Chicago O'Hare International Airport with the most runways, with seven. In 2006 the airport was named the "Best Cargo Airport in the World" according to the second edition of a survey.The airport, within the incorporated cities of Coppell, Euless, Grapevine, and Irving, serves 128 domestic destinations and 36 international, and is the largest and main hub for American Airlines (745 daily flights), and also the largest hub for American Eagle. Delta Air Lines eliminated its Dallas/Fort Worth hub in February 2005 in an effort to cut costs and avoid direct competition with American. It has its own post office, ZIP Code, and Public Services. The United States Postal Service gave the airport its own city designation, DFW Airport, TX. So, the new style for private school frat boys is ironed khaki shorts with loafers/boat shoes. There were about a dozen TCU frat kids on our flight from DFW to Cancun and they dressed exactly alike. Lest you think they were charming in their preppy costumes, they were not. In fact, the entire time we were waiting for the plane, all I could fantasize about was punching each of them in the throat.

The FAA and the DFW airport had proposed a Perimeter Taxiway (PT) system to improve runway safety and reduce runway incursions. The PT is analyzed utilizing actual flight data from the FAA and DFW database for 2004. An estimate was made for air traffic operations in 2010 from the FAA forecasts. Runway assignment was based on runway use plan and the standard taxiway route suggested by ATC. North and South flow was simulated separately in Visual SIMMOD, for a total of sixteen simulations to assess the operational procedures and constraints. Flight track data for one day in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 was obtained to conduct a statistical analysis and determine the height of aircraft overflying the proposed centerline of PT during departures and arrivals. The risk factor was computed to test the Obstruction Free Zone criteria established by the FAA for arrivals and departures. The VS Animator was used to visually track the path of each aircraft on the airfield. The VS Reporter was used to assemble results for runway crossing delay, taxiway travel time, gate assignment, arrival and departure rate per hour, and airport performance
