A Bride in the Bargain
In 1860s Seattle, a man with a wife could secure himself 640 acres of timberland. But because of his wife's untimely death, Joe Denton finds himself about to lose half of his claim. Still in mourning, his best solution is to buy one of those Mercer girls arriving from the East. A woman he'll marry in name but keep around mostly as a cook.85% (15)
Anna Ivey's journey west with Asa Mercer's girls is an escape from the griefs of her past. She's not supposed to be a bride, though, just a cook for the girls. But when they land, she's handed to Joe Denton and the two find themselves in a knotty situation. She refuses to wed him and he's about to lose his land. With only a few months left, can Joe convince this provoking--but beguiling--easterner to be his bride?
What are your favourite bargain-buy stories? I love bargain buys, especially when it appears in unexpected places. One day while browsing through the kitchen section at the local Target store, I came across this Microplane(c) coarse grater. It had no packaging material, no labels or anything. Just a plastic loop to hang the grater onto the display aisle, and a price tag. It was the only Microplane(c) product there. And it was on sale for $12.99 (Aust dollars)! If you visited my local Target as frequently as I do, you would know that Microplane(c) items are not the usual kitchen range sold there. They are sold more in specialty kitchen shops. And, if you have seen these graters in those specialty kitchen shops, or surfed the web to find out more about these graters, you would know that they would cost at least 2-3 times the price I saw it at Target for. So I bought it. It makes grating carrots and cheese so much quicker, with cleanup just as easy. Care has to be taken though, as these babies have SHARP teeth!! Don't you just love bargains? PS: Another bargin buy from the local Target was a Tefal 36cm frying pan for $6.99 (compared to $30)!Bargain Books
Bargain book - as I am going away soon I need some books to read. Rather than a, spending ?8 at the airport on a new release or b, ruining a library book I go to the local library where they have a "for sales" rack where they charge anything between 10p and 80p for various books, not particulary old, so travel = read and throw away, for 10p a book who cares? And you get a good trashy read at the same time. Good olde South West London Libraries, Bargain!
