The road from Sevylor's founding in 1948 to its current role as the dominant supplier of a wide range of inflatables--such as kayaks, boats, and towables--is a long one, with plenty of original inventions and innovations along the way. Established in a city suburb of Vitry, France, by electronics engineer Berco Grimbert, Sevylor originally built electrical accessories, with a sideline business dedicated to using its high-frequency welding machines to manufacture PVC consumer goods. The first inflatable to receive rave notice was a small bathtub called the Dou . Ein Loschboot ist die allgemeine Bezeichnung fur Wasserfahrzeuge, die speziell fur Zwecke von Feuerwehren, Katastrophenabwehr oder vergleichbaren Institutionen ausgerustet und besetzt sind.Bei diesen Arbeitsschiffen ist eine feuerwehrtaktische Beladung, die meistens auf die Bekampfung eines Brandes von der Wasserseite aus abzielt, ublich. In der Regel sind dazu unter anderem leistungsstarke Feuerloschkreiselpumpen und oftmals auch Sonderstrahlrohre (Feuerloschmonitore) vorhanden. Aufgrund der vorhandenen Pumpen werden Loschboote nicht selten auch genutzt, um bei landseitigen Gro?branden eine vom offentlichen Trinkwassernetz unabhangige, leistungsstarke Wasserversorgung fur Einheiten auf dem Land zu schaffen. Im direkten Umfeld von Wasserflachen werden sie hingegen meistens zur unmittelbaren Brandbekampfung eingesetzt. Loschboote konnen auch auf offener See Verwendung zur Schiffsbrandbekampfung finden. Diese Loschboote haben meistens deutlich gro?ere Abmessungen als Loschboote auf Binnengewassern, um auch bei schwierigen Witterungsbedingungen (grobe See, Starkwind, usw.) einsetzbar zu sein. Schiffe, die Feuerloscheinsatze durchfuhren, mussen eine hohe Manovrierfahigkeit aufweisen. Einige Loschboote nutzen dafur eine von Ernst Schneider entwickelte Technologie, den Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP). Mit konstanter Motordrehzahl betrieben ist es moglich, die Hauptmotoren auch zum Antrieb der Feuerloschpumpe zu verwenden. Um die erforderliche hohe Loschkapazitat aufbringen zu konnen, benotigen die Feuerloschpumpen ca. 60 - 70% der Antriebsleistung. Da die vom VSP aufgenommene Antriebsleistung begrenzt wird, bleibt der Voith Wassertrecker (VWT) wahrend des Feuerloschbetriebs voll manovrierfahig. Die Leistung genugt vollig aus um den VWT zu manovrieren, auf Position zu bringen und gegen au?ere Krafte zu halten. Ein bekanntes Beispiel ist das derzeit leistungsstarkste Feuerloschboot der USA, das L.A. Fireboat 2. Mit zehn Loschkanonen ausgestattet ist es in der Lage, in einer Minute 120 Kubikmeter Wasser vermengt mit Schaum auf Brandherde zu fordern. Die zwei Voith Schneider Propeller werden jeweils von einem 1.800 PS starken Dieselmotor angetrieben. Generatoren, die ebenfalls durch die Dieselmotoren angetrieben werden, sorgen fur ausreichend Energie zum Betreiben von vier der sechs Pumpen mit Leistungsstarken zwischen 4.500 bis 7.500 gpm (gpm=gallon per minute). Loschboote werden in der Regel von Feuerwehren gro?erer Stadte vorgehalten. Stadte, die wirtschaftlich oder in anderer Weise sicherheitsrelevante Hafenanlagen in ihrem Einzugsbereich haben, setzen Loschboote zur Absicherung der Hafengebiete ein. Das hohe Gefahrenpotential, resultierend aus gro?er Brandlast und teilweise gro?er Mengen von Gefahrgut, machen dies notwendig. Aufgrund der im Vergleich etwa zu Loschfahrzeugen geringen Einsatzzahlen sind solche Loschboot-Einheiten nicht immer fest besetzt. Als Besatzung konnen beispielsweise ein Schiffsfuhrer und ein Maschinist fungieren. So ist bei der personellen Besetzung des Loschbootes garantiert, dass diese uber adaquate Kenntnisse der Schifffahrt und der Sicherheit auf dem Wasser verfugt. An der deutschen Kuste fuhren neben den in gro?eren Hafenstadten vorhandenen Loschbooten der ortlichen Feuerwehren auch die uber leistungsstarke Feuerloscheinrichtungen verfugenden Seenotrettungskreuzer der DGzRS die Aufgaben von Loschbooten aus. Zudem sind teilweise die Hafenschlepper mit Feuerloscheinrichtungen ausgestattet. Classified in "Arctic Explorations that Payed Off". Meet Chateau des Anges. A post-mediaeval castle that was once surrounded by an immense park. It belonged to a very noble family of counts. It just had everything: a grapevine, vast orchards, fountains, stables, arable lands for crops and livestock, woods, a lake. Ownership changed quite often and the castle wasn't maintained as it should be. The last owner left the place in 1970. It is untouched ever since. Plan A My first attempt, spring 2009. The bridge connecting mainland to the castle's peninsula is fenced off. I slip through and check the front door. A flashback to 1970 twirls up in my mind: maybe they just left the place to get some smokes? And vanished, while leaving the front door open. Not. Of course it's sealed, what was I thinking. Plan B Inflatable boats, y'all. Pumping some air in some plastic. Load our gear and set sail. Peddling like there's no tomorrow. There's a thin line between exploring and transatlantic sailing. I informed a fellow explorer of my boat plan, and we wanted to set off and explore this castle together. But he beat me to it. But he wanted to beat me. On an early morning he pulled out a rubber boat, started pumping, and took off. Unfortunately the boat plan didn't succeed. The island to embark on is completely overgrown by impenetrable bushes with sharp thorns, spines and prickles. What was the owner thinking? Some schmuck would cross the water - or even better - cross the ice in the event of winter? And there we were.
