Genre: CLASSICAL COMPOSERS

When Wagner set the Ring to music, he intended the orchestra to act in the fashion of a chorus from a classic Greek tragedy--setting the mood and commenting on the action. In order to allow a nonverbal musical line to reflect on the plot, Wagner developed a psychologically and musically complex symbology to communicate his thoughts to the listener. From the beginning the Ring has spawned numerous written commentaries on the relationships of the motif structure, but by using examples from the Decca Ring recording, Deryck Cooke's thoughtful spoken commentary is by far the most accessible guide for either the fledgling Ring enthusiast or the seasoned veteran. --Christian C. I found the box in an antique dealer's place in London; it was the kind of store you'd expect to find dusty old heirlooms and useless knick-knacks in, and even had one of those "Ye Olde Curiousity Shoppe" signs out front. I'd been on vacation in London for almost a month, and I wanted to find something really special to commemorate my time there; I was ecstatic when I found an ad for the Shoppe, and made sure that I had time to stop there before my return flight to Seattle. It also had two of the strangest people I'd ever meet. Elizabeth Feathersoft, and Alan Winterschill were the owners and caretakers of the Shoppe, and they had a strange partnership that extended to the layout of the store. Even the way they dressed was in stark contrast to one another: Ms. Feathersoft wore a light dress and accoutriments, while Mr. Winterschill wore dark robes and ornamentation that would suit most warlocks. Both of their faces lit up when I walked into the store. But nothing either of them displayed caught my attention. That is, until... . This "31 days of Halloween" story is a collaboration between me and my brother, with him handling most of the writing, and myself, most of the imagery. We both love the spooky and the Supernatural, and came up with the story idea together.

Leaving London
We are at London Heathrow with our bags checked and just waiting for our flight bound for home. They said leave 3 hours advance at Heathrow but I really think it's just an excuse to have you wander through the bountiful duty free shops before your flight. Since I seem to have lost Kim's wallet (no worries, nothing valuable in it) it looks like I'll be replacing it for her at one of these shops as my punishment. We have had a really great couple of days here in London which I am waiting until we return home to write up. Until then, we have another airport to explore. -- mobile mail sent via phone
