At today’s meeting we learned more background information, specifically about Briggs’ Plume Rise Model. These background sessions aren’t directly relevant to what we’re doing; they focus more on gas from a stack. However, it is always good to have a general idea of what the modeling software you’re using is doing. After the short lecture, I used Google Scholar to search for relevant papers and journal articles. I ended up finding seven papers of varying usefulness. Probably the best one, for our purposes at least, was a report of a very similar simulation a group did using HotSpot. They give reasons why they chose certain parameters in the paper, which is very helpful when trying to figure out what certain inputs mean, and whether or not they should be changed.
