Abstract. As events happen around the world, they trigger news headlines as well as casual commenting by the general population via mediums such as Twitter. Is there a correlation between what shows up as news headlines in mainstream media outlets and what shows up on Twitter. To investigate this, we developed the web mashup “WhatsGoingOn?” to allow users to browse news headlines from Google news and Twitter trends from various major cities around the world. We present the data in a way that allows users to view news & Twitter trends as well as any correlations that may exist between them.
