Association for India's Development Annual conference 2018

Association for India's Development, Portland chapter is immensely proud to announce that we are hosting the AID Annual conference for 2018 from May 26th - May 28th. In conjunction to the conference, we are also hosting the annual Peace, Justice and Youth conference on May 25th and 26th. You can register for both these events here

This is an opportunity for AID supporters, like you in US to connect with some of our grassroots level partners traveling from India. This year, we wish to use this opportunity to discuss topics based on "Multi-Dimensional inequality" in India as well as in the world. Our honored guests who are also our keynote speakers are as below

Aruna Roy

A crusader for participatory democracy and RTI on wheels programs across various states. She co-founded the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan known for its successful struggle and demand for Right to Information Act. She has been a mentor for AID for several years.

Sumi (Arindam) Das :

A coordinator of Social Advocacy & Health related Support for Transgender and Gender-Variant People. Sumi has been actively working on Community-based advocacy, Empowerment work, HIV-AIDS prevention among transgender and sexual minority communities in Coochbehar district and other parts of West Bengal. Sumi left home at the age of 14 and has been fighting for the rights of transgender communities since then. She has been working with a Dalit activist to bring together the intersectional forces between the Dalit and Transgender movement. Sumi lives in a rural area of Coochbehar where she works with institutions and social groups for the equality and rights of transgender people as well as with those who struggle to come out. Sumi Das is a project partner for AID for Karna Subarna Welfare Society.
