  • In 1947, the American Institute of Biological Sciences was founded as a part of the National Academy of Sciences. Forming an independent organization during the 1950's, AIBS is now dedicated to "advancing biological research and education for the welfare of society" (AIBS, 2009).
  • As the AIBS organization grew, it began to outreach towards college students. In January 1968, Hiram College formed the very first student chapter of AIBS, earning it the offical Alpha Chapter Status in 2003. AIBS also awarded Hiram's student chapter the President's Citation Award. Today, Hiram College is one of 13 academic institutions to have a student chapter of AIBS.
