Mid caption. 324 Combat Support Squadron is Australia's support squadron permanently based at RMAF Butterworth in Malaysia. The squadron provides essential support to Australian units operating from RMAF Butterworth throughout the year. The squadron comprises Royal Australian Air Force personnel and locally employed civilians who support Australia's national interests in South-East Asia by providing deployed combat and domestic support. Deep caption: Forces from Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia and the United Kingdom have joined together under the Five Power Defence Arrangement (FPDA). The aim of BP10 is to exercise force elements from maritime, land and air forces from member nations of the FDPA, in the defence of the Malaysian Peninsula and Singapore in order to enhance interoperability among assigned forces. The exercise is hosted by the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces (RMAF) and staged from RMAF Base Butterworth. BP10 is taking place in the South China Sea and on the Malaysian Peninsula. Eight F/A-18 Hornets and about 125 personnel from RAAF Williamtown's No 3 Squadron are taking part in the FPDA exercise, which represents almost 40 years of co-operation between the member nations. Training in exercises such as BP10 is important for Air Force personnel to hone key skills, work as a combined force and build regional relationships with participating nations.
