Welcome to the HCQS

The Highway Capacity and Quality of Service (HCQS) Committee (AHB40) is concerned with investigating the physical and non-physical factors which affect capacity, traffic flow, comfort, convenience, and safety; and is responsible for developing computational techniques for quantifying the effect of these factors on capacity, traffic flow; and quality of service.

TRB Webinar on Planning and Preliminary Engineering Applications Guide to the

TRB will conduct a webinar on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 2:00-3:30PM ET about how the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM) can be used to support agencies’ planning, programming and management decisions in a cost-effective manner. Released by TRB, the HCM is used by transportation agencies to evaluate the current and future operations of roadway facilities. The new HCM 6th Edition includes the companion reference document, NCHRP Report 825: Planning and Preliminary Engineering Applications Guide to the Highway Capacity Manual. This guide demonstrates planning applications in the HCM that can be used for long range planning, travel demand modeling, alternative scoping and screening, and system performance monitoring.

2017 Mid-Year Meeting

TRB is sponsoring the Highway Capacity and Quality of Service Committee Midyear Meeting being held June 14-17, 2017 at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Located in the center of downtown Minneapolis, the Marriott City Center offers convenient access to all that Minneapolis and the Twin Cities have to offer.

This year’s meeting will include a series of workshops, committee, and subcommittee meetings, production/implementation of the new Highway Capacity Manual 6th Edition, and future direction of the Committee. The registration fee includes the meeting and associated materials, continental breakfasts, morning and afternoon breaks, lunches, and an evening tour, reception, and dinner at the Mill City Museum.
