T-80 Standard Tank: The Soviet Army's Last Armored Champion (New Vanguard)
The Soviet T-80 Standard Tank was the last tank fielded before the Soviet collapse, and the most controversial. Like the US M1 Abrams tank, the T-80 used a turbine power plant rather than a conventional diesel. Although the design was blessed with some of the most sophisticated armament, fire controls, and multi-layer armor ever fielded on a Soviet tank, its power plant remained a source of considerable trouble through its career. It saw very little service in the Chechen War, though T-80 tanks were used in some of the regional conflicts in the former Soviet Union in the 1990s.

Although the collapse of the Soviet Union might seem the end of the story, the T-80 lived on in Ukraine where one of its tank plants was based. A diesel powered version of the T-80 was developed, the T-84, which was successfully exported, including a major sale to Pakistan to counterbalance the Indian Army's Russian T-90 tanks. Steven J Zaloga charts the little-known history of the T-80, covering the initial construction, through the development to the subsequent variants, the T-84 and Russia's enigmatic "Black Eagle Tank." Accompanying detailed cut-away artwork illustrates the unusual design features that made the T-80 so controversial.

Revelation 13: Russia -- is it headed for dictatorship? -- will the Antichrist come out of Russia?-- a Bible prophecy and New Age analysis Here I will continue my discussion of the future of Russia begun on the "Revelation 13" main page, using religion combined with numerical and New Age methods. Also discussed here is former Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the possibility that he is the Antichrist described in the Book of Revelation, Chapter 13, who is also the third Antichrist of the Prophecies of Nostradamus, believed by some writers on Nostradamus to be named "Mabus". Also, see the first page, which includes a section with a discussion of the chaos in Russia as well as my general predictions of future world events and my general New Age theories. Who is "Mabus" of the Nostradamus prophecies? Well, Mabuse was a painter from hundreds of years ago who painted a picture of the three Kings visiting the Christ child, with one of these three Kings looking much like President Putin. So that could be the meaning of "Mabus", Mabuse painted a picture of the future Antichrist. Mabus is not the Antichrist, but rather a painter who had a vision of him hundreds of years ago. The meaning of the future Antichrist Putin, being in a painting by Mabuse, would be that he is shown giving a gift resembling a gold crown to the Christ child, as if he, a greater King (the Antichrist), is crowning the Christ Child. Note that in 2002 Putin actually was presented a multi-million $ crown of gold with jewels, and a cross on it, that is similar to the crown of Czar of Russia Peter the Great. I will also discuss Russia in more detail here on this page. I think the leader who came to power in Russia, in the spring elections in year 2000, former President Putin, will eventually work miracles there, and the world will praise this Russian leader for bringing peace and stability and economic reform to Russia. And Putin could help the U.S. in the war against terrorism. But Putin may become a total control type of dictator of Russia. Note that Putin appears to still be in control of Russia even though he is no longer President. What I am talking about here is the Antichrist, coming to power in Russia, and that Russia is the red 10-horned beast of the Bible's Book of Revelation (The 10 horns being the Confederation of Independent States, led by Russia, although there are more than 10 in it now. And this beast is starting to take a new form of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, SCO, consisting of Russia, China, and four Central Asian nations in an Anti-American alliance). The Antichrist is a Satanic imitation of Christ, and like Christ, he will appear to be the saviour of the world; this could be Putin helping defeat the terrorists, possibly helping bring an Israeli-Palestinian Peace Settlement, and this may also relate to President Putin helping build an asteroid defense for earth, since earth could be struck by an asteroid as predicted by Revelation 8 (possibly in 2009-2012). But this red 10-horned beast is an angry, dangerous beast in the Book of Revelation. The danger for the world of the chaos in Russia in the 1990s was that nuclear fallout does not know national borders, a nuclear civil war in Russia could have sent a cloud of nuclear fallout over the U.S., and we in the U.S. could be living in our basements for a few weeks. Other dangers of the chaos in Russia is that they could sell their nuclear weapons to unfriendly countries (Russia is selling some of their best military equipment to Red China, including radar systems, submarines, ships, and jet planes), and also there is a danger that that they may not do proper maintenance on the nukes and missles could be launched accidently. Or terrorists could get unaccounted-for Russian nuclear weapons. Russia with thousands of nukes and anarchy is not a good situation. So President Putin, by bringing stability to Russia after the near-anarchy it saw under Gorbachev and Yeltsin, was helping bring peace and security to the world. Another image in the Book of Revelation is the woman who rides the Beast. The woman and the Beast are friends, but eventually the Beast turns on her, and she is burnt with fire. I think this woman is Europe, since the symbol of Europe is the mythological Europa riding a bull, and Europe is geographically next to Russia. Russia and Europe have cooperated in economic and political matters in recent years, but I think the relationship could turn unfriendly over concerns about Russian stability and losses of European investments in Russia. It is also possible that the red 10-horned beast of the Book of Revelation could consist of Russia as the red beast, and the 10 horns could be 10 other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Also note that if Belarus combines with Russia (which has been discussed, the two countries may unify) then the shape of the countries looks a bit like a

Ishtar Gate, Ancient World. Babylon.
Babylon: Its Coming Destruction! by N. W. Hutchings -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Scriptures speak of two Babylons: Babylon and Mystery Babylon. It could be concluded that Babylon was the original Babylon over which Nebuchadnezzar reigned, and Mystery Babylon the Iraq of today. Another more plausible explanation is that Babylon is, of course, the Babylon of 600 B.C. that was a world empire, and it is also the one that destroyed the Temple and took the Jews into captivity. However, Mystery Babylon appears at the end of the age as we see the revival of the Roman Empire in the European Union within a world system, a New World Order, touted through international entities like the United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Club of Rome, Council on Foreign Relations, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, etc., and even includes the Roman Catholic Church and the ecclesiastical leadership of most of the non-Catholic denominations. Other than 3 million Israelis in Israel, the Jew is still captive in the world. Therefore, it would seem logical that Mystery Babylon is the one-world system in its tripart identification: political, economic, and ecclesiastical. It would appear that the titular head of the system will be the person who will sit in the Temple of God on Mt. Moriah and claim to be the Messiah. We read in Revelation 13:7 that this person, called the Son of Perdition and the Antichrist, will have power over all races, nations, and languages-this will be total political power over the earth. In Revelation 13:8 we read that everyone who is not a saved person during the Tribulation will worship this world dictator as a god. This will be total religious and ecclesiastical power. According to Revelation 13:12, there will be a high priest of the false religious system, but this ecclesiastic will be part of the beast system and preach that everyone should submit to the religious authority of the Antichrist. We also read in Revelation 13:15-17 that it be mandated by the Son of Perdition that any person who does not worship him as the "messiah," in order to get a mark and number, will be killed. This is total economic power. The old Babylon, at least today, could not possibly fulfill the prophetic destruction described in Revelation 18. However, what about the destruction prophesied for the literal city of Babylon on the Euphrates River? According to all archaeological reports found in numerous biblical dictionaries and encyclopedias, the Babylon (or Babel) founded by Nimrod and later ruled over by Hammurabi, encompassed 200 square miles. The city was protected by a double wall, with the great wall being 344 feet high and 86 feet wide. Chariot races were held on the wall, and in times of danger, troops could be swiftly moved to points of attack. The city was so big 25 bronze gates were in the wall on each side. In numerous prophetic scriptures in the Old Testament, the ultimate destruction of Babylon, just as Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed, is to come swiftly. Most biblical references claim that this was fulfilled when the armies of the Medes and Persians in about 540 B.C. diverted the Euphrates River and marched into the city under the walls. While the account of the fall of Babylon to Medo-Persia did, according to Daniel 5, happen in one day, it certainly was not destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah. The city was only slightly damaged by the Medes and Persians because its fall happened so suddenly. Babylon remained an important city during the 200 years of the Persian Empire. It was also an important political and commercial metropolis during the Grecian Empire. Alexander the Great died in Babylon in 320 B.C. When the Jews were allowed to return during the time of the Persian Empire, many remained in Babylon. At the time of Jesus Christ there were still 25,000 Jews in Babylon. Jesus commissioned Paul to take the Gospel to the Gentiles, and Peter was to go to the circumcision (Israelites). In carrying out this responsibility, we know that Peter did preach the Messianic Gospel to the Jews in Babylon in A.D. 63 (1 Pet. 5:13). The opinion of some that the Babylon referred to in this scripture was Rome is ridiculous. With the decline of the Roman Empire the city of Babylon was not that important to world trade and commerce. Political, religious, and economic centers moved eastward and westward. Many of the beautiful bricks were carried off to be used in construction projects in Baghdad, Damascus, and cities of the decathlon. However, this was such a huge metropolis that the majority of the buildings and walls remained to be covered up with the sands of the Euphrates River and the blowing sands of the Middle East. The decline of Babylon was a slow process that occurred over a thousand years. There was no sudden destruction of Babylon, nor was it destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah. There was considerable activity by German archaeologists during and afte

BMP Infantry Fighting Vehicle 1967-94 (New Vanguard)
The Russian BMP infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) was one of the most significant innovations in infantry tactics in the latter half of the 20th century. Built in response to the threat of nuclear warfare, it was the world's first IFV, providing the infantry squad with unprecedented firepower, mobility and protection. With over 55,000 manufactured since 1966, the BMP is also numerically one of the most important armoured vehicles ever built. This richly illustrated book examines the development and design of the BMP, detailing its armaments, performance in combat and variants.
