NORTH EAST COFFEE FESTIVAL

From the Northern Echo 21st Jan 2011

Let’s all drink to a coffee festival idea

COFFEE enthusiast Annabel Townsend hopes to stir cafes and tea rooms into action with a view to holding the region’s first-ever coffee festival in Darlington this spring.

STIRRING THOUGHTS: Annabel Townsend outside her cafe

Mrs Townsend, who is nearing completion of a PhD in the coffee industry, owns and manages a coffee shop in Parkgate.

She said: “There are many independent venues in Darlington and the North-East offering exceptional quality coffee. I think it would be great to get everyone together for the festival and raise money for a good cause.”

She would like public involvement and hopes Darlington Borough Council will agree to stalls and events in the market square to coincide with National Coffee Week, which runs from April 4 to 10.

Money raised would go to Water Fall, a charity which aims to provide clean water and sanitation projects to more than 100,000 people.

“If we can all get together and raise as much money as possible for this great charity while enjoying some lovely beverages in the process, then it will be a great success,”

she said.

For details, or to express an interest in being involved, email drcoffee@afternoon-tease.co.uk or go to the Afternoon Tease café in Parkgate.
