I got tagged by shannonpix and Kimdangrl, so here's my shot: 1. It’s my calling to be a fitness instructor. I love changing people’s lives, being a positive influence, motivating newcomers and athletes alike, and giving the gift of health and wellbeing. If I could make a decent living doing this, I would quit my day job. Maybe once my future husband becomes a hotshot lawyer, I can just teach classes. 2. Everything gives me a headache. Most perfumes, loud noises, bright/fluorescent lights, going too long without food, eating too much sugar or salt, drinking alcohol, staring at the computer/TV too long, getting too much or too little sleep… I could go on. 3. I exercise 6 days a week- religiously. I would work out every day, but I know my body needs to rest. The one day a week that I’m sure to get a headache is the day I’m off. 4. I’m a super duper Type-A neatfreakazoid. An unmade bed or crumb on the floor/counter makes my hands shake. My mom assures me that having a baby will cure my disease. 5. I never wanted a baby until my friends started having them. Now my baby fever keeps me awake at night. 6. I’m obsessed with maps, globes and atlases. I could look at them all day, find a new way to get from A to B, study the highway infrastructure of Zanzibar, Africa, see how my tiny hometown has developed since I left… Google Earth is freakin awesome!!! 7. Reading is sexy – I love to read! When Michael is sitting at the dining room table sorting out the US Legal Code (that book is enormous with paper-thin pages and tiny font) I want to rip his clothes off! 8. I like being alone. I see movies, do my BEST shopping, read, cook, watch TV, play with my camera and PSE - all by myself… it’s a good thing too, since Mike’s at PSU 8 months out of the year, I’m doing alright. 9. My favorite holiday is Christmas! I start decorating as soon as Halloween is over. I love buying and giving gifts, singing to Christmas music, making and eating cookies, candy and fudge, and especially being with my whole family (see #10) 10. My whole family consists of 8 people. All my grandparents died young, so my dad is an orphan, my mom has two sisters, but neither of them had kids so I have no cousins. It’s just me, my mom, dad, brother, and a couple of aunties & uncles. No pressure to have kids or anything! 11. It’s hard for me to make deep, long-lasting friendships. I think it’s because I’m picky, and since I like being alone, I don’t really tolerate much. That doesn’t mean my friends are flawless, we just have *something special* that draws us together. They will be friends for life, and I love them dearly. 12. I love to sweat (see #3). But I mean, really sweat from every pore in my body in sauna-like temperatures. I love to hike or bike when it’s 98+ degrees outside in full sunshine with 100% humidity. 13. Summer is my favorite season – the hotter the better (see #12). I would love to move farther south than VA. 14. I haven’t been sick since October 2003 except for 1 food poisoning incident. I truly believe it’s because of #3 and #12; I recently beat off a looming flu virus – no problemo. Excessive hand washing helps also. 15. Cruise vacations are the way to go. I get so bored going to 1 place and parking there for a whole week. I love to be on the go, see many places, and be busy and active all day every day on vacation. I like to need a vacation once I’m home from vacation. J I’ve been on 4 so far! 16. I can’t wait to get married , but I don’t like weddings (shhhh it’s a secret!) Mike’s family is huge and would be so offended if we eloped, so the compromise is to have one, but make it as non-traditional as possible. Pink wedding dress, white havaianas, no veil, no praying, singing, harps, flutes, communion, or scripture, no cake cutting/shoving, no bouquet tossing or garter peeling, no bridesmaids, groomsmen, ring bearer, flower girl (actually, no children whatsoever!), no electric slide or chicken dance , and nothing deliberately ‘old, new, borrowed, or blue’. I guess all that leaves is “I do”, lots of pink champagne, and “Let’s get jiggy w/it!” It’s going to be the best party ever!! Honeymoon = 9 day cruise (see #15)
this is what is left?
this is what is left?
Awhile back, I defrosted the deep freeze and basically took inventory. For a bunch of meat eaters we were almost out of meat. Two pieces of roadkill boar and six chicken feet were all that was left after five months of not shopping. Our September 2008 meat orders (total cost 220 euros) of fowl and hoof we depleted. It’s bean time. Our pantry is still half full of canned tomatoes and other preserved delights that need to be brought to the table. But I was aching for bacon. The longest month of the year, slow moving January seems to be the time when I get green envy as I did last year. Luckily our climate is mild and we can forage for wild picked nettles and goutweed which provide refreshing greens in the middle of a bare winter. Goutweed is really good when it's young made into curries and stirfries. But our vegetable bin in the deep freezer was looking pretty pale with misplaced buttermilk and yogurt starters tossed with a bag of celery stalks and bags and bags of fava beans for the fava slurper (Amaya). What I really want is a big bowl of bone soup and a juicy steak. Greasy marrow to spread on toasts and a salad. Mmmmmm. Good dreams. While we are determined not to spend our money on shopping, food or otherwise, I am not against using our Christmas cash for food. With Aunt Sue’s 100 dollars we ordered 8 kilos of grass fed organic beef : steaks, ground beef, and the liver and the tripe and she (yes, the farmer is a she, it’s a family ranch, she has 30 cows right near us) said she’ll give us the marrow bones for free. Grandpa gave us 150 euros with that we ordered half a side of pork and with the rest of the cash, we went the farmers market and picked up some carrots, parsnips, beets, garlic and onions. I was like a kid in a candy store. We saw our chicken farmer there (we usually go to his ranch to get fresh eggs) and I got a big free range chicken, he gave me three carcasses and six more feet to make soup. He knows me well. In a way, for us it’s good to learn to live how the farmers really did with the seasons. I should have made a covered winter garden and I will next year so we will have more potatoes, spinach, beets, lettuces and possibly carrots. I should have preserved a ton more things as to not rely on the freezer so much especially after the power outage. The fat back of the pork is smoking in the chimney right now with fallen grapevines and I am making carrot cake for our neighbors. Maybe some people say we are cheating because we did buy food five months later, but I say its well used gift money. We bought what we were dreaming of.
