Air Battle Force
In military circles it's known as Air Battle Force—an air combat unit of the future, under the command of aerial warfare expert Major General Patrick McLanahan, capable of launching stealthy, precision-guided firepower to anywhere on the globe within hours. And now McLanahan and his warriors have their first target.
Driven from Afghanistan, the parasitic forces of the deposed Taliban regime have decided to feed on a new host—an isolated, oil-rich Central Asian neighbor that's ripe for the conquering. The battle for control of the world's largest oil deposits has begun, with unsteady alliances forming and opposing forces set to collide. And now a handful of American commandos half a world away, aided by McLan-ahan's unproven robotic warplanes, will have to triumph against overwhelming numbers in a war that nobody—including "friendly" forces at home—wants them to win.
Battle of the Somme 1916.NZ Memorial near Longueval. France. August 2005
The NZ Memorial to the WWI NZ soldiers was difficult to find. It was at the end of a road, surrounded by potato fields. You had to really want to go there to get to it. It seemed to be situated at the other end of the world. A bit like New Zealand, I thought. It fit. From Wikipedia: "The Battle of the Somme, also known as the Somme Offensive, fought from July to November 1916, was among the largest battles of the First World War. With more than 1.5 million casualties, it is also one of the bloodiest military operations recorded. The Allied forces attempted to break through the German lines along a 12-mile (19 km) front north and south of the River Somme in northern France. One purpose of the battle was to draw German forces away from the Battle of Verdun; however, by its end the losses on the Somme had exceeded those at Verdun. By the end of the war the Allied losses proved replaceable, the German losses less so."
When driving home my wife noticed this odd looking cloud. The moon had started shining and lit it from behind making it glow in the dark night. Out of the car I went. To my pleasure the Aurora showed up again when I started shooting. It was like the Aurora was sword fencing with that cloud. Actually the where not even near each other. The cloud was likely at an altitude of around 1-2km while the Aurora was 80-200km higher up in the air. Exif: Shutter Speed: 20 sec Aperture: f3.5 ISO: 800 Focal length: 10mm on a 1.6 Crop Canon 30D
