Hoya 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter - Sunpak Polarizing Filter Review - Ceramic Cartridge Filter.
HOYA DIGITAL PRO1 58MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER FILTER [Camera]
HOYA DIGITAL PRO1 58MM CIRCULAR POLARIZER FILTER Color and contrast enhancement Light rays which are reflected by any surface can become polarized so polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. CIRCULAR PL filters allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds. HOYA's polarizing filters do not affect the overall color balance of a shot82% (15)
Histograms of the four previous photos
Histograms from UFRaw of the RAW files for the previous four photos (testing the effects of UV and polarizing filters). RAW files were used to eliminate any effects of in camera processing. Top - _532017 - No filter 2nd - _532018 - UV filter (Hoya HMC 58mm UV(0)) 3rd - _532019 - Circular polarizing filter oriented vertically (Hoya 58mm PL-CIR) bottom - _532020 - Circular polarizing filter oriented horizontally (Hoya 58mm PL-CIR) Note: "filter oriented vertically" means that the dot on the filter was vertical. "filter oriented horizontally" means that the dot on the filter was to the side. These photos were taken just after noon, so the sun was almost vertical.Paddington poses for a polarizer test, 5302020
After finding what looked like a color shift in some recent architectural photos when using a polarizing filter, I decided to do a test series. The test photos were taken in full sun within a few seconds of each other in aperature prefered mode. The focal length of the 14-42mm zoom lens shifted slightly when changing filters, but all were at about 35mm. _532017 - No filter _532018 - UV filter (Hoya HMC 58mm UV(0)) _532019 - Circular polarizing filter oriented vertically (Hoya 58mm PL-CIR) _532020 - Circular polarizing filter oriented horizontally (Hoya 58mm PL-CIR) No processing. The color shift has been traced to photographer stupidity, by-the-way.
The HOYA HRT circular polarizer filter uses a newly developed High-Rate Transparency film that passes more visible light through the filter while still filtering the same amount of polarized light. The HOYA HRT circular polarizer filter transmits as much as 25% more light through the polarizing film giving the photographer about 1/3 stop more light than a standard circular polarizer. This new polarizing film is also used in the latest HD LCD TVs. The glass of the HOYA HRT filter also has UV absorbing properties making the HRT a combination UV/circular polarizing filter. The most common use for a circular polarizer filter is to darken bright blue skies in outdoor photography, but they also can reduce or eliminate reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as glass and water. By rotating the outer ring of the filter the change of effect can be seen by looking though the filter or through the viewfinder if it is mounted on a camera. HOYA is the world's largest optical glass manufacture, making glass to spec for almost every camera and lens manufacturer. HOYA is also the world's largest filter manufacture.Related topics:
