Common Furnace issues

Leaking is the most common furnace issue which occurs due to aging and part wearing. It could be the gas, oil, or the water flowing through it. Deposition of rust on joints, pipes, and valves can result in corrosion. It leads to the formation of hairline cracks and holes. Though it is a slow phenomenon, it may result in risks because it remains undetected.

Malfunctioning Parts

The furnace parts can malfunction due to stress and fatigue. It could happen due to aging, excess usage, and environmental factors. It can often result in equipment breakdown, low/no heating, increased fuel bills, and repeated maintenance needs. Lack of or poor maintenance can also result in part defects and malfunctioning.

Noisy Parts

The furnace parts can get noisy when the air gets blocked within its interiors. Loose parts and fitments can also cause noise due to vibrations. Aging parts wear away, leaving gaps between them and the fasteners. It can result in shocks and noise.

Insufficient Burning

Fuel burning doesn't happen evenly. The soot deposits on the interiors of burner, heat exchanger, and the flue can result in the excess release of carbon monoxide within the furnace. Thick deposits can result in excess of fuel consumption. Hence, the energy bills can increase drastically.

Pipes can develop rusting deposits of dirt in their interiors. They can form into thick clogs and prevent the flow of gas, oil, and water. It can result in a dramatic rise in pressure and heat within the furnace. The equipment may break down or work at reduced efficiency levels. Detection may not be easy as the symptoms are externally invisible unless they reach a critical stage.

Corrosion can happen due to hard water flowing through the furnace. It can also lead to the formation of chlorine scale deposits, making the furnace age prematurely.
