A WebQuest for Adult ESL

This WebQuest is intended for use with advanced adult ESL students who are transitioning from adult school/noncredit community college ESL courses to academic and career and technical credit college or university programs. The resources listed are specific to students living in San Diego County (specifically North County), California, USA; however, the WebQuest could be modified for use with any high school or adult ESL students. The final product of the WebQuest, an oral report about a career, fulfills the third task of the WIA EL Civics Employment Advanced Level Objective 33: “Identify and access employment and training resources needed to apply for a job.
Career Assessment: Students use the internet to take a career assessment with the purpose of discovering careers that match their personalities, likes, skills, experience, and interests.
Career Research: They then select one career to research further. Again using Web sites provided, students find information about a career and take notes on a note-taking form that is provided. Students then find out how they can prepare for the career in a certificate or degree program at a local college or university or at a vocational/professional school.
Oral Report: Finally, using the information gathered, students prepare and deliver an oral report with a visual aid.
