On June 22, 2018, the second" Build the Community Workshop" was held at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança  in which 18 teachers from the 5 schools of the IPB (2 hours) were present. The workshop was widely disseminated among all the teachers in the IPB Portugal. Several professional tasks constrained the attendance of other colleagues. The workshop was mainly hands-on based aiming to obtain feedback from the participants about the CoP platform to test it. After a brief presentation of the Adulet project and the partner universities, the participants were asked to test the CoP platform by following the different steps contained in the comments to the community of practice form, a handout provided in the beginning of the session.  While they were testing the CoP platform they identified problems and suggested improvements. Finally, they filled in the online final evaluation form. The participants gave a valuable contribution to the improvement of the CoP which is noticeable in the online creation of teaching methods, tools, problems and suggestions and through the evaluation form.

We wish you a happy new year 2018 with a lot of brilliant ideas and the opportunity to make these ideas become reality. We hope to present the first prototype of our community of practice (CoP) soon and share the first experience working with the CoP. 2017 was full of conceptual work in the AduLeT project and now it is time to realize these concepts within the CoP.

Current work at the community of practice (CoP)

At the moment the AduLeT team is mainly focused on the development and implementation of the community of practice (CoP). Since end of October four online meetings were held in order to plan the CoP and collect the requirements which urge from the influencing intellectual outputs (O1 and O2, later as well O3). At first the AduLeT team had a closer look to existing systems like Wikis, GoogleSites, CRM and shopping systems, Moodle and Moodlerooms, WordPress or Joomla. Quickly the AduLeT team realized that the requirements of the CoP are very peculiar and therefore decided to involve more technical experts to the process of finding a proper basis for the CoP.
At first there was the idea to build the community of practice from the scratch with the support of some frameworks like YII, but now the AduLeT team decided to give the system Drupal a chance for the first version of the CoP. At the moment the system Drupal is installed at the University of Education Ludwigsburg and can soon be adopted to the project’s needs.

The first "build the community" workshops

posted Oct 25, 2017, 5:55 AM by Birgit May   [ updated Dec 5, 2017, 4:26 AM ]

The main target group of the AduLeT-project are lecturers at the participating institutions, but also lecturers at other higher education institutions, who will both be part of and gain from the Community of Practice (CoP). Therefore the AduLet-project involves lecturers of the partner institutions from the very beginning of the project.

During the summer of 2017 more than 80 lecturers participated in the first “build the community" workshops that were held at all six universities of the project. The lecturers had either already some experiences in using technologies in their teaching or they have none experiences, but are interested in using technologies in their teaching.

During the workshops the project AduLeT was introduced and presented. After that the template for the teaching methods and the template for the TEL tools were introduced and more importantly the lecturers had the possibility to give a feedback concerning the structure and usability. In this way they were able to contribute to the revision of the templates for describing teaching methods and TEL tools. In a brainstorming session specific teaching methods and TEL tools were collected. As a result 39 teaching methods were described and suggested for the collection of teaching methods 1.0 and 34 TEL tools for the collection of TEL tools 1.0. Finally, the community of practice (CoP) was discussed and the lecturers could give a feedback for the implementation of this community, since they are the main target group for the CoP.
The workshop were very fruitful and productive for all partners. The results were send to the leaders of intellectual output 1 and intellectual output 2 and are in the reviewing process at the moment. Furthermore the involved lecturers’ feedback shows that the workshop helped them to enrich their knowledge about TEL tools and their usage in higher education teaching. This was indicated by the results of a questionnaire that the workshop participants filled out after the workshop.
