The British-Australian Tenor Adrian Dwyer has sung in many of the world's greatest Opera Houses and Concert Halls, gaining recognition for his extraordinarily wide-ranging vocal ability and vivid theatrical presence in works from the Classical era to the present day.
Engagements for the 2018-19 season include a return to Welsh National Opera as Anatole in a new David Pountney production of War and Peace, main stage debuts at the Israeli Opera (Salome), Opernhaus Zürich (Sweeney Todd) and the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (War and Peace). He will also return to Opera Queensland as the Prince in John Adams' A Flowering Tree and to Longborough Festival Opera as Mime in their much-anticipated new Ring Cycle. On the concert stage he will appear with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Kensho Watanabe (Carmina Burana), the Scottish Concert Orchestra under Michael Bawtree, and the Cambridge Philharmonic under Timothy Redmond.
Engagements for the 2017-18 season included an acclaimed company debut with Welsh National Opera as Andrei in Khovanshchina, First Jew in Salome for Opera North, the inaugural production of the Irish National Opera (Electrician in Powder Her Face, a role which he subsequently reprised for the Nevill Holt Festival). He also stepped in at the last minute to sing Sam Kaplan in Street Scene at Teatro Real, Madrid.
Adrian made his professional debut in Los Angeles as Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann’s Broadway production of La Bohème (winning an LA Stage Alliance “Ovation” Award for Outstanding Performance), and has since embarked on an extensive international career. For the past decade he has been engaged by companies such as English National Opera, the Dutch National Opera, Welsh National Opera, Teatro Real (Madrid), Scottish Opera, Opéra de Toulon, Cape Town Opera, Opera Queensland, the State Opera of South Australia, Opera North, Birmingham Opera, NI Opera, and at the Edinburgh International, Aldeburgh and Amsterdam Festivals.
He has garnered critical acclaim in repertoire ranging from Mozart to Adés, collaborating with innovative directors such as Richard Jones, Christopher Alden, Calixto Bieito, Deborah Warner, David Pountney, Carrie Cracknell, David Alden, John Fulljames, Oliver Mears, Graham Vick, Olivia Fuchs, Antony McDonald, Annilese Miskimmon, Olivier Benezech, David Freeman, and many others.
He has performed with eminent conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Richard Armstrong, Richard Bonynge, Jane Glover, Marc Soustrot, David Parry, Ulf Schirmer, Stephen Lord, Elgar Howarth, Oleg Caetani, Mark Wigglesworth, Ed Gardner, Tomáš Hanus, Rafael Payare, Paul Daniel, Vasily Petrenko, David Stern, Nicholas Braithwaite, David Hill, Richard Farnes and Rafael Payare.
On the Concert Stage he has appeared in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, with Orchestra de Paris at the Opera Comique and Theatre Mogador (Paris), with München Runfunkorchester at the Prinzregententheater (Munich), the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at Usher Hall (Edinburgh), the Ulster Orchestra at Waterfront Hall (Belfast), the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at Philharmonic Hall (Liverpool), the BBC Philharmonic, the Philharmonia Orchestra, the RTE Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestras of Melbourne, Queensland and Adelaide, and at Opera City (Tokyo), Queen Elizabeth Hall, Bridgewater Hall, Glyndebourne, and the Sage Gateshead.
As a prizewinner in the Australian Singing Competition, he studied under full scholarship at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio (London), the Steans Institute (Ravinia Festival, Chicago), the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, and the Wagnerjahr Meisterkurs at the Bayreuth Festival.
