Set a Purpose for Reading

Have Students Set a Purpose for Reading

• The essential question should lead to setting a purpose.

• You have to lead each student to develop a REAL purpose for reading.

• Some activities that activate prior knowledge also help set a purpose:

• Anticipation guides

• Graphic organizers (within Visualizing)

• Authentic questions from the students

• Almost any project
