If due to mis-alignment the tyres do not run parallel to each other then one shoulder of the tread fets scrubbed off resulting in one-sided wear. Miss alignment is usualy recongnisable from the fact that the tread pattern ribs show signs of "feathering"wher the edges have been scrubbed off. Front- and / or rear axel toe in means by which some vehicle manufacutres optmise the handeling characteristics of their vehicles - can also cause one sided wear. High toe-in values aggravate this and aslo contribute to diagonal spot wear. One sided wear is also caused by high camber values. Positive camber values leads to wear on the inner shoulderand negative camber to wear the inner shoulder.
Since putting on the new rear tyres, it highlighted the geometry neeeded a tweak. The car became hard to tame at high speeds. The old tyres had warn away to null the effect. I took the car to a place with a lazer alignment bay to get it sorted properly. It turn out that all four wheels were out by a couple of degrees. Since being fettled it is sturdy and comfortable to drive at high speed again. Good times. For my photo of the day, i jumped down into the mechanics bay, got some strange looks, but it was worth it!
