General Information

Group photo of the ISTE 2013 Photo Walk participants
The ISTE 13 Photo Walkwas a success with around 175 people participating. A group photo was taken at the convention center, followed by a walk to the Alamo where a second group photo was taken. You can click on Group Photos on the left to see them.

Participants are tweeting about their experience and the photos they took using the hashtag #iste12photo - even without a Twitter account you can search on that hashtag - https://twitter.com/search?q=%23iste13photo

Photos are also being uploaded to Flickr at http://www.flickr.com/groups/iste13photowalk

If you participated in the Photo Walk, please fill out this short survey  with your name and email address.

The original information for the Photo Walk:

Date:  Sunday, June 23, 2013
The 2013 edition of the ISTE ADE Photo Safari will occur in beautiful downtown San Antonio, specifically, in the area surrounding the Convention Center, Alamo, and Riverwalk. But, this year, it will be a bit different. We're planning a Photo Walk, as opposed to a more in-depth Photo Safari.  Plus, the time will be much shorter than in previous years. 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Meetup Location:  Convention Center Front Patio -- North Side

Please register for this event at http://tinyurl.com/istephotowalk13

Photo Walk Theme:  "Expanding Horizons Through Photography" or "Everything is Bigger in Texas"

There is no charge for this photo walk!

This is an Apple Distinguished Educator (ADE) initiated event and it is our 5th Annual event at the ISTE Conference. The first four were The National Mall in Washington, D.C., Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, historic downtown Philadelphia, PA., and San Diego pier and Gaslight District. All were a huge success.

Our driving idea:  The current world record for a photo walk was set by Thomas Hawk's group -- 406 people.  We hope we can get the word out to enough people at ISTE that we can break this record.  Regardless of how many show up, we're planning to have a great time together.

For the world record, the criteria (for Guinness) are:  people must walk at least 3 blocks;  people must sign in, in some fashion; and we must be able to document the number.  This means at least a group photo.

Our basic targets for photo walk ideas are:  Alamo;  River Walk; Tower of the Americas.  But, we also will emphasize the architecture, flowers, and other natural accoutrements.

The whole format of this will be different this year, as people will probably gather at the meetup site, wait for instructions and the group photo, then launch off on their own treks.  There's no plan to ask people to reconvene at the Convention Center when the time expires.

Again, thanks for your interest in joining us....and please feel free to invite friends.

Many thanks to ADE Cristina Popescu, from San Antonio, who has planned our photo opportunities for the photo walk.  Also, Texas-native ADEs Helen Mowers and Anna Adam have been a huge help in planning.

Members of the ADE Photo Walk/Safari Leadership Team this year include:
Craig Nansen ("co-founder" of the ADE Photo Safari idea!)
Larry Anderson ("co-founder" of the ADE Photo Safari idea)
    Christina Popescu
    Gordon Worley
    Gayle Berthiaume
    Anna Adam
    Helen Mowers

We plan to convene outside the Convention Center Sunday morning at 8:00 AM.  After some orientation, we will start the Photo Walk by heading towards the Alamo (or, depending upon the crowd size, some alternate routes).

At 10 AM, we plan to converge at the convention center for a "wrap-up" photo opportunity.  That will wind up the official photo walk, but, of course, you're welcome to stay and make as many photos as your heart desires.

So, for all those who have joined us on past safaris, as well as any newcomers, grab your camera, pull on your walking shoes, and jump in with us for a time of fun, fellowship, and learning as we capture images of one of American's most photogenic cities!

Reminder:  Be sure to register very soon for this event, then invite all your friends to join us for this exciting venture.
