Adare Under 12’s record first win of the season.

Adare Ladies U12 win “C” Shield Final
Adare U12’s travelled to play Drom / Broadford in the “C”
Shield Final on Monday 16 June 2014 in Knockaderry. Having lost to them in the
league, Adare went into this match as clear underdogs. The match was played in
glorious sunshine on one of the hotter days of the year which made the
conditions very tiring for both teams. A large number of supporters turned out
to cheer both teams on.
The first half started off at a lively pace with Adare
winning the ball in midfield through Mary Ann and Faye. Some good interplay
involving Jean, saw Sally win the ball on the sideline where she released the
ball back to Jean who kicked a fine point. Drom / Broadford, however, piled on
the pressure and attacked relentlessly. For long periods of time they were
camped in front of the Adare goals and only heroics by Jennifer, Marie, Annie,
Louise and Grace kept them out. Whenever they did get a shot on target, Siobhan
– in goals – was in top form keeping them out deflecting one goal-bound shot,
in particular, wide. When Adare broke out of defence, some nice interplay
between Megan and Iosla set Jean free. Jean still had a long way to goal but
managed to beat three defenders before a wicked shot hit the net via the
underside of the crossbar. Drom / Broadford converted one of their chances for
a point of their own which spurred Adare back into action. Another fine move
down Adare’s right involving Faye, Mary Anne, Jean and saw the ball slipped by
Sally to Amy with a nice hand-pass and Amy took a lovely point. Adare led 1-2
to 0-1 at half time.
In the second half, Drom/Broadford kept the ball in the
Adare half and Siobhan, Jennifer, Marie, Annie, Louise, Grace, Faye and Mary
Ann worked tirelessly in the hot evening sunshine to keep them out and denied
them scoring chance after scoring chance. Despite this Drom / Bradford kept
nibbling away at the lead with point after point. In the final Quarter, John
introduced Martha and Jenna from the bench to bring some fresh legs into the
action. With five minutes to go, Drom / Bradford - with their 6th
point of the game - took the lead for the first time to lead by one point.
Adare – however – were not going to give up and the tenacity they showed all
season came to the fore yet again. Winning the ball deep in defence, Louise
carried the ball past four Drom / Broadford players. Releasing the ball with a
long foot pass to Jean, Megan then continued the attack up the Adare right.
Megan found Amy out on Adare’s right and Amy drove in on goal and put the ball
into the Drom / Broadford net past a defender and the goalie on the line. Try
as they might, Drom / Broadford were unable to add to their score, leaving
Adare victors by two points.
A big thank you to all the panel members for keeping their
team-mates hydrated by running on and off with drinks throughout the match. In
the very hot conditions, it was vital.

Girls Under 12 Updates
Girls Under 12 Match vs Athea
evening of bank holiday Monday 6th May saw Adare U12 girls play their round
seven West Championship football match away to Athea. The evening was dry and
started strongly and although they were playing up-hill in the first half, they
had Adare under pressure from the off. Good interplay between the Athea
forwards was rewarded by two early points. Adare made changes to the starting
formation to stiffen up the defence and prevented any further damage for the
remainder of the half.
advantage of the incline, Athea attacked again at the beginning of the second
half and maintained the pressure on the Adare defence. The addition of a
further two points appeared to be decisive. Nearing the end of the game, a rare
attack from Adare resulted in a free which gave them their first point of the
game. This was followed shortly by a goal for Adare which levelled the score. Late
attacks for either side failed to provide a decider and Adare finished the
happier of the two teams with the resulting draw. The teams
took advantage of the fine evening to play an extra “friendly” period to give
their full squads some additional match practice.

Adare Girls Under 12 Match vs Fr. Casey's

the 2013 West Championship. A lovely sunny evening in the Manor Fields provided
the perfect setting for a fast free flowing match which was enjoyed by the many
The first half
was keenly contested with play moving from end to end at a hectic pace. Both
defences were strong, allowing very few clear scoring opportunities. The
Abbeyfeale side eventually opened the scoring with a goal resulting from
impressive interplay between their forwards. Scoring chances continued to be at
a premium, however Adare managed an equalising goal just before halftime when a
looping shot from midfield found the Fr Casey’s net.
Play at the beginning
of the second half followed the same pattern as the first with the teams
exchanging points. As the half progressed, however, the pace of the game began
to tell and spaces started appearing for both sets of forwards to exploit.
Crucially, Adare were able to take advantage of a much larger squad to bring on
fresh legs in the later stages of the game. Adare took better advantage of the
more open game adding a further 3-2 to their score. This was decisive and, with
Fr. Casey’s failing to convert a number of good chances of their own, Adare ran
out winners by a score line that was not truly reflective of the close contest
that had taken place.

conditions and both teams took full advantage to serve up a free flowing and
Feohanagh/Castlemahon started brightly scoring an
early point but although they continued to have their fair share of possession
during the remainder of the first half, the Adare defence proved superior and

clinical and took full advantage of their opportunities clocking up a score of
5-2 by half time.
In the second half Feohanagh/Castlemahon enjoyed an

Adare Win “A” Shield
On Wednesday 20 June 2012, the Adare Under 12 Girls team matched the Club’s best-ever performance by winning the “A” Shield Final, played at Ballybricken GAA Club. Adare defeated Mungret St. Pauls by 5-3 to 0-7.
Having narrowly lost their “A” semi-final to St. Ailbe’s by 5-1 to 3-9, Adare were determined to perform to the best of their abilities in the “A” Shield Final. Unfortunately, Gillian O’Donnell who was selected to play was unable to play due to illness.
Mungret St. Pauls played with the slope and the wind in the first half and attacked non-stop. The Adare defence kept them away from goal, however, with Mungret racking up 6 points from distance without reply. However, in the final minute of the first half, the Adare attack moved into top gear and rattled the Mungret net leaving Adare trailing 1-0 to 0-6 at half time.
In the second half, Adare used all the natural advantages and launched themselves on the Mungret defence. An early goal brought Adare level and was followed by three more goals in quick succession. Mungret replied with a point – but Adare went up-field to score three of their own. Mungret’s attack went after goals late in the game but the Adare backs and goalie kept them out.
It was a fantastic team performance by all the players who worked tirelessly for each other and they should all be proud of their performance and their attitude all season. Their only two defeats came from the teams contesting the “A” Final.
Lauren Ryan accepted the Shield for Adare and congratulated Mungret on their great display. After some narrow losses in previous finals, the Adare Girls then celebrated their victory. The return drive to Adare was a noisy one – featuring lots of horn-blowing around the village of Adare. The girls and supporters enjoyed a late meal at the Pink Potato with the Shield prominently displayed.
Adare’s squad for the Final was Kristina O’Brien, Aisling Smyth, Kate O’Farrelly, Louise Butler, Mai Keating, Ellen Stack, Sive O’Halloran, Hazel Alfred, Shannon Parbat, Ciara Moroney, Muireann McCarthy, Martha Stack, Emma McAuliffe, Aoife Hickey, Eve Murphy, Anna Neilan, Gillian O’Donnell, Lauren Ryan, Maggie Sweeney, Aoife Molyneux, Grace Feighan, Niamh Mulcair, Aoife Kirwan, Caoileann Crowley, Aisling McNamara, Jean Morrissey.
A big thank you to the Team Manager – Trevor Moroney – for his sterling work all season ably assisted by Eithne and Barry O’Halloran.
It is fantastic to see so many girls playing the sport in Adare and hopefully they will keep up their efforts for future years.
Adare’s League record was Played 9, Won 7, Drew 1, Lost 1. Adare now take part in the Limerick “A” Championship.

Adare Ladies Under 12 Match vs Fr Caseys
On Sunday 10 June 2012, our Under 12’s travelled to Fr Caseys ground in Abbeyfeale, playing just “over the border” in Co Kerry. The game was played in a great spirit – with some light showers affecting the spectators more than the players. Adare struck with an early goal and led by 8 points at half time. Fr Caseys attacked early in the second half forcing the Adare defence into periods of sustained action. However, Adare’s midfield and forward line showed some good interplay and left the final score as Fr Caseys 3-2, Adare 9-5.

Adare vs Old Mill
On Friday 18 May 2012, our Under 12’s faced a very strong Old Mill team in Adare. The game was played in a great spirit and a “never say die” attitude was shown by both teams.
