Here's What Happened At Last Night's PAC Meeting...

Post date: Oct 09, 2014 4:21:56 PM

The first PAC Meeting of the year was a success!

It was great to see lots of new faces. If you missed the meeting, here are some highlights...

GUEST SPEAKER

Nancy Smith, “Parenting in the Digital Age”

The speaker, Nancy Smith, from Safe Schools Surrey gave us a “Scare-Fest” on parenting in the digital age. She had a video presentation that had our jaws dropping with its statistics, and our heads shaking in disbelief. Throughout her informative Power Point Presentation, she stressed that it is our role as parents to manage our children’s online experiences. We can’t control everything online, but we can teach our children that their behaviour in the real world needs to be the same on the computer/online. Their (our) digital footprint is permanent and is being created now.

SCHOOL ADDITION

Mrs. Berka reported that the new addition has been approved! We will be getting a total of 10 new classrooms, which will include 2 new Kindergarten classrooms with their own washrooms, and 8 classrooms, along with bathrooms on each level. The addition is planned to come off the east side of the school, and be built out towards the front, jutting out northwards (NOT towards the back gravel field of portables). As soon as they have the plans finalized, they will be displayed at the school. Construction is slated to begin in the Spring of 2015, with an ESTIMATED completion time of approximately one year. Exciting!!!

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES NEXT WEEK

EARLY DISMISSAL @1:30 ,WED & THURS (15th/16th)

These are an important opportunity for the parents to share with the teacher(s) about their own child. Parents should have received, (and returned), the notices to the school indicating what time slots work best for them. Parent’s appointment times will be sent out by the school shortly.

UPCOMING PAC INITIATIVES...

Price is $30. They are now home and students should be selling. Contact ktuckey@shaw.ca if you have any questions.Hot LunchNotice went home (Blue Paper). Ordering opens October 10th and closes Oct 20th. Contact the Hot Lunch Committee at arhotlunch@gmail.com for clarification if needed. When ordering, one doesn’t have to choose from every menu. For example, if you just want to order chocolate milk for your child each time, and nothing else, that’s okay. You can customize each order to accommodate what your child will actually eat.Pub Night

Saturday, February 7th at Jimmy Mac’s pub in Port Kells (200/96). The Canucks game will be on the Big Screens. Some parents asked why we weren’t having it at a local Cloverdale pub, and the answer was that the nearby pubs won’t host a fundraiser on a Friday or Saturday night. Jimmy Macs will, and does have a shuttle service. A parent at the school, Alan Kelly graciously volunteered to organize this event. He’d love help; please email adamsroadpac@hotmail.com to let them know you’d like to help.
