I am a PhD Candidate in the Wilf Family Department of Politics at New York University. I study ethnic and African politics with a focus on political participation using experimental and survey methods. I am primarily interested in the role ethnic identities play in determining the preferences of voters in Africa who do not have a co-ethnic candidate for whom to vote. My dissertation applies an original model of ethnic proximity to predict the political preferences of Coloured South Africans. In addition to this main research agenda, I also study race politics, prejudice/discrimination, ethnic conflict, and development.
