A computer is a programmable machine that receives input, stores and automatically manipulates data, and provides out in a useful format (i.e. a video monitor).  Todays personal computers are dominated by two main operating systems. Apple Computers that run OSX a derivative of UNIX, and PCs that run
Windows.

The processor is the main component on any computer and can be the most expensive. Two types of processors or CPU's, dominate the market today; Intel and AMD. Apple computers are currently run solely by Intel CPU's. PC's usually use AMD or Intel.

Computers are made to play music, watch movies, budget online accounts, and visit friends on Facebook. To take full advantage this machine one should be internet connected. The internet makes a computer more fun and interactive. The internet brings new content and media to absorb and learn from. A computer without the internet is like a set of encyclopedias bought years ago, still very informational, yet still collecting dust.

Where do most viruses come from? Unfortunately from the interent. The internet is chalk full of sites that will infect a PC's OS and slow down operations. The result is frustration of the user not being able to preform ordinary tasks. Some users give up and buy a new laptop. What about the about the next time this happens? This could be costly. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Prevent the viruses buy installing Anti-virus software, converting to a new browser other that IE (internet explorer), and turning on the firewall.

Internet Explorer is a default internet browser packaged with Windows. It has been around since WIndows 95. Since then hackers have had plenty of opportunity to learn and exploit all the security flaws and make viruses targeted for it. Their are many other browsers out there that are faster and more secure, and reliable on the internet. Firefox, Google Chrome, and Safari are a few good internet browsers. Google offers the most convenience by looking up keywords right out of the search bar. In terms of security, Chrome periodically retrieves updates of two blacklists (one for phishing and one for malware), and warns users when they attempt to visit a harmful site.
