Lead Teacher/Director (Middle School) position for Acton Academy in Austin, Texas.

posted May 5, 2011, 6:19 PM by ACM Pepperdine   [ updated May 5, 2011, 6:25 PM ]

Acton Academy was started a couple of years ago and is now expanding to include a middle school. We are looking for someone to lead the start-up and also serve as the primary teacher for the school once it launches in 2012.

The school is a truly "blended" learning environment, utilizing the best of gaming software, Montessori/Socratic teaching methods, and project-based learning. It is likely (but not necessary) that the right candidate will be experienced in a non-traditional teaching environment: homeschooling, gifted/talented, high-tech learning environments, unschooling, etc. There is a special emphasis on Great Books/Western Civilization and free-enterprise.

Students in the elementary school have been tested and have gone up three grade levels in under 2 years.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

·  A passion for teaching and student-centered/project-based learning

·  Skills to manage the successful start-up for a school, including curriculum design, developing experiential learning exercises, managing the student recruitment process, and evaluating student learning and outcomes.

·  An entrepreneurial spirit

·  The ability to motivate others toward a larger vision

·  An embrace of the principles of the free-enterprise system and Classical education

If you'd have 10 minutes or so to chat by phone in the next week or so, I'd really appreciate it. Please let me what days/times might work if you are amenable. We can schedule something or I'll try to call sometime today.

All my very best,

Lynn Gibson
