Instructions for authors

This page describes the formatting guidelines and new features of paper submission for ACL 2014.  See call for papers for details about paper submission. Send an email to "acl2014-publication [at] nii . ac . jp" for any inquiry.

Submission of camera-ready papers

Read the following two pages for details:
  • Camera-ready submission: explains how to format and submit your camera-ready paper, as well as new features of this year's ACL.
  • LaTeX submission: describes details of the submission of LaTeX sources.

What's new for ACL 2014?

When your paper is accepted for publication at ACL 2014, you have to submit the camera-ready version of your paper by April 11, 2014 (long papers) or April 30, 2014 (short papers).

The submission instruction involves a couple of new procedures:
  • Automatic PDF checking: Before uploading the paper, the START system checks the validity of the format of your PDF.  It checks margins, font embedding, page number, etc.  If the paper does not conform to the regulation, the paper will not be uploaded.
  • LaTeX source submission: This year, we collect LaTeX sources additionally, to create XML version of proceedings.  If you do not submit latex sources, your paper will not appear in the XML proceedings.

Papers in XML format

One innovation which we are introducing for ACL 2014 is that we will publish papers in machine-readable XML in the ACL Anthology, in addition to the traditional PDF format. This will allow us to create, over the next few years, a growing corpus of scientific text for our own future research, and picks up on recent initiatives on converting ACL papers from earlier years to XML.

When you submit your camera-ready paper, we will automatically convert the LaTeX source code into XML using the LaTeXML tool. For now, uploading your LaTeX sources along with the camera-ready PDF will be a voluntary option. However, the more authors make use of this option, the more XML papers we will have in the Anthology, so we encourage everyone to participate.
