IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS

The ACHS drumline has been asked to perform early Monday August 31 in the morning at the OUHSD teachers' meeting at the Oxnard Performing Arts Center. At the district's request, the battery and four cymbal players will be performing in front of approximately 1,800 people. This is a huge opportunity to showcase our program to the district, and Mr. Cook has requested that the entire battery participate. 

 

We will be meeting at the ACHS bandroom at 5:45 a.m. and will be carpooling to OPAC for the performance. We should be back at the bandroom by 9:30 a.m. If you have any questions or are able to drive or help transport equipment, please contact Linda Martinez at lindakmartinez@yahoo.com or 805-377-0715. Hello ACHS Band Members and Parents,

My name is Daniel Cook and I am thrilled to officially introduce myself as the Music Director of the Adolfo Camarillo High School Music Department.  I am a native of Southern California and a graduate of Moorpark High School.  I have served on staffs with many groups through the Inland Empire, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Ventura County.  I served as the Asst. Band Director of Moorpark High School from 2006 - 2011.  I most recently have been serving as Management with Nick Rail Music where I focused on relationships and supporting school music programs in various capacities and using corporate contacts to develop educational opportunities for educators and students alike.  I am an active SCSBOA Visual Adjudicator and Mentor Judge for aspiring adjudicators.  On top of my teaching background, I have also been a show designer for many programs as a consultant and drill writer including Royal High School in Simi Valley, Ca.  I currently reside in the San Fernando Valley with my wonderful wife, Nicole and my amazing 18 month old daughter, Bailee Rae.  This wide background has all contributed to my development as an educator and prepared me for this exciting step. 

I find that my years in high school music were incredibly rewarding and memorable and I look forward to providing a the same experience to all of you.  The success of a program comes from many groups of people from school faculty, community involvement, parent support and membership commitment.  There is no doubt that funding is critical, but the foundation of the program is the memberships investment musically.  I look forward in aiding in your continued music education and developing you as young responsible people.  While it is a music program and our primary goal is to develop a strong musical presentation, we also learn many other skills and qualities that are important for our success within the program and also for your future like an understanding of fitness and body training, responsible habits, strong work ethic and the balancing of the many things that take place in your busy lives.  The music department should set the bar for campus and be the ambassadors of Adolfo Camarillo High School in our travels.  It is a great responsibility and one that I know you will all embrace.

Parents, I look forward to meeting you all and seeing your involvement in these performers lives.  Any performer at any level wants nothing more than to find someone in the crowd to perform to and for; someone they recognize.  I hope you all have the opportunity to be present for them in the many performance opportunities and venues that these performers will pour their hearts out in.  The support of the program also depends on the involvement as volunteers alongside their membership.  I look forward in developing new and exciting ways to accomplish this, ways that will be rewarding and fun and also help the program in a big way.

I want to thank Dr. Kim Stephenson and her administration for their vote of confidence in my abilities to lead this program.  I very much look forward to working with the administration and rest of the faculty in developing a strong sense of pride in our campus and cooperation with all of the academic and other activity responsibilities our students have.

I finally want to thank the staff and leadership that helped lead the ensemble during the transition.  I have heard nothing but incredible things about how much student leadership stepped up to the plate.  Bill, thank you so much for going above and beyond, particularly that first week of camp.

Students, I want to ask you all to reach out to anyone who may have stepped away from the program prematurely.  We want everyone to feel included in this program and want them all to have the opportunity to experience music and the chance to perform.  

I look forward to meeting you all and getting to work on what will be a fantastic year.

The Camarillo High School Marching Band and Color Guard will hold mandatory orientations for all students and their parents Sunday, Aug. 2, in the school's library. The session for freshmen and new students and their parents will be from 2-3 p.m. Returning students and their parents should attend from 4-5 p.m. Meetings will include information about the new director, details about the upcoming season, expectations and changes to the program. All Camarillo High School students interested in learning more about the program or joining the Marching Band or Color Guard are invited to attend.

Marching Band and Color Guard students are required to attend band camp at the school from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 3-7 and Aug. 24-28. Students should wear shorts or sweatpants, athletic shoes, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. Bring instrument, plenty of water, sunscreen, lunch or money to purchase lunch off campus, a small notebook or dot book and a pencil. Eat a healthy breakfast before arriving. The group's first performance will be in the Ventura County Fair Parade on Aug. 8.

ACHS Color Guard Summer Rehearsals - Wed. 6/17, 6/24, 7/1, 7/22 and 7/29, 4-7 pm.
All students (including incoming freshmen) who are planning to participate in ACHS Color Guard in the Fall should attend the summer rehearsals. Meet at the ACHS Band Room.

Rancho Campana High School (RCHS) — Students who will be attending the new high school, Rancho Campana and wish to participate in Marching Band may do so at Adolfo Camarillo High School. Students will need to register at ACHS and enroll in zero period Marching Band. They will also need to attend the after school and evening practices at ACHS, football games at ACHS and Saturday competitions. As of now, OUHSD's plan is to have one concert band class at Ranco Campana if they can hire a teacher that has a credential in music and another subject.  If students want to participate in Marching Band or Jazz Band they can do so at ACHS zero period. Tranportation would be on their own.
