I attended an ice sculpture exhibit in Nashville simply called ICE! It is an annual exhibit with a different theme each year. This year's theme was based upon the very popular Charles Schultz television Christmas special, "A Charlie Brown Christmas." The sub-title of this year's ICE! however was "We Froze Charlie Brown." The exhibit was held in the Gaslight Theatre at Opryland USA. The ice sculptures were sculpted by 35 sculpters who were commissioned from China. It took them over a month to carve the ice - over two million lbs. of ice. It was pretty amazing and also exceptionally cold as the inside of the Gaslight Theatre was kept at a constant 9 degrees fahrenheit or -12 degrees celsius. Set coming soon and Nashvillians may leave the description at this juncture unless you want to cry. For those unfamiliar with Nashville. ICE! is sponsored by Gaylord Entertainment which owns various hotels and attractions around the country. They own the Grand Ole Opry. The Grand Ole Opry used to reside in the Ryman Auditorium in downtown Nashville until it had its own theatre built in 1974 farther out of town. A huge area was called "Opryland" and it included the Grand Ole Opry, the huge Opryland Hotel, General Jackson Showboat and a much beloved music based theme park with thrill rides and shows. Much to the astonishment and chagrin of the citizens of Nashville, Gaylord decided to dismantle the theme park after only about 20 or so years of existence and replace it with a shopping mall called Opry Mills. It was a sad day when Gaylord closed the Opryland Theme park. However, Gaylord retained a few of the theatres which were part of the theme park such as The Gaslight Theatre. This is where the ICE! exhibit is held. The General Jackson Showboat, Roy Acuff Theatre, Opryland Hotel and, of course, The Grand Ole Opry are still going strong. Even without the theme park it is still a huge operation and the Opryland Hotel is a photographers dream. People still miss the theme park though.

We just happened to be there during Imaging USA but we didn't attend the conference. We didn't enter the exhibit hall, either, because it was already closed. No matter; we'd been to the one last year in Phoenix.
