The morning light sneaks over the pines to set these James Creek grasses aglow in a meadow. Sometimes you have to line up a shot, compose, set up the camera settings and then, toughest of all, sit and wait for the light to hit it. Somehow, I snapped the grass before the marmot on the hill trimmed it off for its larder. He can take his shot at it now.

This morning shot was made in deep shade off the Peak to Peak, Colorado Highway #72. A small trickle of water drains a nearby valley and trickles through this dark spot even though July days fade toward the August burn. Presently, the trickle feeds the South Fork of the South St.Vrain River.
