Jacob Freiderich (Staiber) Stiver
b. 1784 (Germany) Prussia, occupation butcher/baker. Swabia Wold Province, Bavaria, d. May 1850. m. Julianne Potter. Beaver County, PA. Purchased a farm in Butler County, across the creek (Conoquenesoning) from Zelienople abt. 1816. Sold property abt. 1837 and settled in Indiana County, PA.. Purchase three hundred acres of timberland in Canoe Township, Indiana Co and sold all but three farms.  Farmland divided among David, Daniel and Jacob.  Part of town of Harmony, Butler County built on old Stiver farm. Jacob Freiderich Staiber (Stiver) Last Will and Testament, Uniontown, PA.  Bible of John Tipton.

b. 1798 (Germany) Prussia m. Jacob Freiderich Staiber. d. May 1857.

5) John: b. 3 September 1827. Findley near Harmony, Butler CO PA. d. 14 August 1905. Buried: 17 August 1905 Circle Hill Cemetery, Punxsutawney. Spouse: (1) Martha Saltsgiver. Married: 1847. Spouse: (2) Louisa Hawk. Enlisted 23 October 1861 and served in the Co K 105th Regiment PA Infantry.  Re-enlisted as a veteran volunteer December 28, 1863 and served until 1865.  Wounded on June 30, 1862 in the left knee at the Battle of Charles City cross roads.  Described as being 5' 10' with dark hair, eyes, and complexion.  Moved in 1904 to the home of their daughter Maude at 403 West Mahoning Street in Punxsutawney.

7) Mary: b. 22 November 1829. d. 17 June 1862. Buried: Smicksburg Cemetery, Indiana Co. Spouse: William Winebark. m. 1847.

8) Abraham: b. 18 May 1832, Beaver County, PA. d. 1 April 1896, Buried: Marchand Cemetery, Indiana Co, PA. Occupation: Farmer. Spouse: Catherine Wineberg. m. 16 December 1862 Canoe Twp, Indiana Co, PA.

9) Daniel: b. 13 August 1835. d. 22 August 1908 Pine Cemetery, Canoe Twp, Indiana Co, PA. Spouse (1): M. Elizabeth Peffer. m. 1855 Spouse (2): Louisa A. Mackel.  Settled on a 72 acre farm in Canoe Twp.  Served with Company C, 206th PA Volunteers from 28 August 1864 until 26 June 1865.

10) Elizabeth: b. 1 January 1836. d. 3 January 1913 Indiana Co, PA. Spouse: Robert McFarland. m. 1854

11) Catherine (Christina): b. 1837. d. 1922 Spouse: John Bartholomew. m. 2 January 1857.

12) David: b. 1840-1842 d. 30 July 1918 Canoe Twp, Indiana Co, PA. Spouse: Elizabeth Bradenbaugh m. April 1861, Canoe Twp, Indiana Co, PA.  Enlisted with Company C, 206th PA volunteers with his brother Daniel.  Described as being 5'8' with fair complexion and blue eyes.  Resided on his farm until 1880.  Died at his home in Florida of pneumonia.

b. 1763 (Germany) Prussia. m. Fannie Sauger (Shugert). d. 1850, Indiana County, PA.  Switzerland to US ca 1818 to Burks County, PA. ca 1821 Lycoming Co and ca 1827 to Beaver and 1840 to Indiana County.

Gottlieb Stiver

b. 16 August, 1820, PA. Occupation: Farmer and lumberman. m (1) Caroline Winebark. (before 1850) m. (2) Mary Dunmire 28 October 1874, Locust Lane, Indiana County, PA. d. 16 July 1897, Canoe Twp., Indiana Co, PA. buried. Marchand Cemetery, Indiana County, PA.  Enlisted in Co B, 206th Reg. PA Vol at Punxsutawney and served in Virginia until his discharge on June 26, 1865 at Richmond.  Resided on farms in Young and Perry Twps in Jefferson County until his 2nd marriage where he lived in Canoe Twp, Indiana Co, PA.  Died from gangrene as a result of a foot injury.

Caroline Winebark (1)

b. 1821 Germany (Prussia). d. 1868, Young Twp., Jefferson Co, PA. Caroline and daughter (Caroline) died in a house fire the result of a kerosene lamp explosion. Buried on private farmland.  Caroline was the sister of Catherine, wife of Abraham Stiver.

b. 25 June 1841, Jefferson Co, PA. d. 1 January 1919, Punxsutawney, PA. Buried: Marchand Cemetery, Indiana Co, PA.



2nd Generation Great Grandparents


William Thomas Stiver

b. May 1854. Canoe Twp., Indiana Co, PA. d. 1880-1890. Occupation: Stone mason. m. Sarah Thompson. Lived in Canoe Twp. and then in Jefferson Co.  Quarried and cut stone to build the Pantell Hotel in Punxsutawney, PA.

Sarah Thompson

b. 1852-1854. d. After 1919. Sarah resided in Glen Campbell after William's death.  Had two other children, names unknown, died before 1900.  1920 Census Records: Sarah resided with her daughter Effie Carson in Clearfield Co.

Gottlieb Hardman Stiver

b. 12 January, 1878. d. 7 April 1915. m. Bertha Mae Barkey 20 July 1899 in Glen Campbell. Occupation: Miner, electrocuted in a mining accident near Homer City.  Worked as a section foreman at one of the Snyder Mining Company mines.  Buried: Indiana Co, PA.  Marriage License: Miner from Glen Campbell.

b. 10 July 1883, Indiana Co, PA. d. 22 September 1965. m.(1) Gottlieb Hardman Stiver 20 July 1899. m. (2) William L. Wheeler. d. 2 March 1960. Buried: Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, PA. Bertha died in Pittsburgh, PA. Buried: Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, PA. Bertha was living in Apollo at the time of her death and had previously resided in Homer City, PA.

b. 22 September 1902, Indiana Co, PA. d. 9 November 1974. Buried: Hillside Memorial Park, Akron, OH.  Retired from the Oldsmobile Manufacturing Company and the Pontiac Assembly plant.  Kenneth and Marian separated when William Kenneth was two years of age.

Marian Stevens

b. 5 January 1908. d. 16 March 1991. Buried: Pittsburgh, PA.
