34. Primate ABO Gene Sequence Comparison

 

We also determined partial nucleotide sequences of ABO genes from several species of primates (chimpanzee A, gorilla B, orangutan A, macaque A, and baboon A and B). When we compared those primate sequences with human sequences, we found that the last two of four amino acid substitutions that discriminated human A and B transferases were conserved depending on the A/B phenotype; they are L and G in A alleles and M and A in B alleles.
