Abhishek Gupta (see Figure 1) was born in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He received the PhD degree in Engineering Science from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.

My current research emphasis is in the area of data-driven search and optimization, with particular emphasis on Memetic Computation (MC) as a paradigm for automatic knowledge extraction and Transfer Learning across optimization problems. Some interesting concepts that have emerged from the general theme of MC include Transfer and Multitasking Optimization.

In what now seems like a past life, I was generally interested in the areas of theoretical and applied mechanics, with particular emphasis on numerical modelling of composite materials and their manufacturing processes.

I currently serve as a Scientist in the Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). I am also Chair of the IEEE CIS Task Force on Multi-task Learning and Multi-task Optimization. Prior to my current post, I held an academic appointment (as Research Scientist) at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Since 2019, I have begun serving as Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computational Intelligence
