Sep 1997 - Committee Job Description - Scribe: Wild Local

THE COMMITTEEEEEEE

Some of you may think that the hash mis-management capabilities of the current committee are as low as is humanly possible. We, you're sadly mistaken. We much try, nay strive, to sink to even lower administrative depths. And that's where you come in. Yes, we want you to volunteer to achieve even less than the current committee have. If you think that the web is something you catch flies in or a pen is something you get in the neck if you twist your head round too quickly, then you could qualify for a hash mis-management committee position

If you've ever wondered why the current staff shout at you in a particular order then the following may catch your attention.

There now, told you it would catch your attention, so herewith is a brief soliloquy of the positions mentioned on the 'dry weave top sheet' that forms the back page of this illustrious document

The Grand Master

The high hiedyin. He or she what calls order and has to ask every week what run number it is, so numeracy is strictly not required. Welcomes the visitors/virgins, elects a hash scribe and generally makes a prat of him/herself controlling the masses. Loud domineering, dictatorial and one who gladly suffers fools and makes them welcome among a kindred spirit

Hash Cash

The grippy bastard and the first to shout at you in the evening/morning. Has to balance the books betw3en the rabble who want to drink more and he/she who wants to fund the purchase of a new bike or take the kids on holiday to Butlins. Maintains the run order list and steadfastly controls the issue of commemorative 50, 100, 150 etc. run freebies for the pack. Frequently seen out on Friday nights surrounded by 'exotic Thai ladies' with cigar in mouth, cocktail in hand, a big smile and a T-shirt sporting the logo 'I luv the Hash'. Has to be there every week

On Sec

The working loner. The back-room boy/girl maintaining correspondence with UK Nash Hash, Interhash, other packs, announcing AH3 celebratory runs to the world and maintaining the info in the Interhash directory. (Fat lot of good it did in the last one). Maintains the ino in the hash scribe and informs the Edithare in plenty of time of new events????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joint Masters

Imagine the scene. You are driving home and the ominous reflection of the blue flashing light revolves in the car interior. You stop and a young constable comes to the window. In the process of finding out more about you he asks what you do and you reply "I'm a Joint Master with the Hash!' 'Try explaining that to the beek” comes the reply. Quite simply JMs take the overload from the committee and are particularly useful when 'events' need organising eg. AH3 special runs, Nethybridge, Oban etc. No particular qualification are necessary (or the position would not be filled) although the common features over the years seem to be an insatiable thirst, a dry throat, a voluminous belly and liking for vast quantities of the foaming ale.

Social Sex

This job is not suited to those who wear knitted cardigans and still live with Mum. In fact, sexual deviants can get left behind in the wake of the Social Secretary. Those who are already on the mailing list for "Crotchless Rubber-wear Monthly" and get funny glances from the postman as he hands across yet another large anonymous brown parcel are probably in with a shout. Leopard-skin bras, chain mail basques and peep toe winkle pickers are 'de rigeour' in the average SS's wardrobe. When you are dressed in such garb and the barman in The Grill doesn't cast you a second glance when asking if you want the usual then you really have arrived.

Interhash Sec

The Kultural Ambassador for AH3. The whole world, its second cousin twice removed and her dog should know the Interhash Sec. To be dwarfish in stature, caked in flour every morning and have a running style like you are on casters are fine attributes.

Hash Haberdasher

Let's not forget the sterling work done by our illustrious clothing provider who ensures that we, and any visitors are suitably attired in multi-coloured, illustrated garments containing all manner of sexual deviation.

Hash Horn

Sadly, silent these days but if anyone has 'a big one' then step forward (or else you'll impail the person in front!)

The Religious Advisors

The ability to swear loudly, drink lots of beer (or Diamond White), piss one's knicks and insult innocent bystanders at liberty all at the same time are suitable criteria for selection. Big tits are also useful to divert attention away from the usual tirades of abuse.

Head Hare

Another of the 'working jobs'. Key responsibilities include ensuring a high quality of runs are maintained, the upkeep of the run list, press-ganging hares into setting runs, stepping into the breach when they suddenly step out, and giving advice on setting runs and locations. Not a job for a new hasher and the bi-lingual ability to 'spik Doric tae the fairmers' and 'talk in a plumby accenť to estate owners in a help. Usually takes dogs abuse at committee meetings coz everyone thinks they can do the job better. Local knowledge also an advantage. Often seen wandering in remote woods staring into muddy pools whilst muttering to themselves. Feekies and bad ladies even avoid this poor soul.

Hash Beer

Some might say the most important presence on the run each week. But really we couldn't give a shit about the individual as long as the contents of his/her boot is there. Which brings me to one of the key criteria. A completely encased plastic lined, removable boot interior and an endless supply of poly-bags. It goes without saying that this has to be a regular hasher and preferably a tee-total one (are there any?)

Edit Hare

The worst working job of the lot. Illiteracy, an imaginative mind with no vision, access to the photocopier (shares in Cannon) and a very accommodating boss (or one who also runs on the Hash!!) are necessary pre-requisites. Has to be very regular so a liking for prune and lentil vindaloo helps.

Other Positions

These include HASH FLASH - HASH RAFFLE and anything else we can think of.
